Slavica Germanica history...

The Wends are also part of Brandenburg. German history, specially Brandenburgs and Prussian/ east german history..., slavic people and history are allways part, only nazis wanted to change the slavic-german history.

Thank you Ludi!!!

Frage -- is the post-war building in the middle of the picture going away? Will it be replaced with what was there pre-war? (What was there pre-war?).

Hi There! Yes it`s going to be demolished. Small scale buildings are going to be build. Dozens of buildings. Like in Dresden. That`s why they don`t renovate.
The new buildings will fit to the square!

Prussians were Balts not Slavonics

Are the Postdam autorities going to allow all of the buildings to be built according to the original designs or are they going force the developers to build modernized versions like in Dresden?

I'm so glad to see the central part of Potsdam being reconstructed. Thank you for the pictures Ludi! I've only visited the palaces at Sans Souci, but on my next trip to Berlin I will definitely give Potdam's stadt mitte a look.

It`s easier to rebuild in Potsdam than in Dresden! Matter in fact, this threat is`t covering all rebuilding. Most projects are private. There are some members from the former communists, trying to stop some projects, but it`s usually a diversion from other issues. No, Potsdam is going good.

Potsdam is Germany`s Camp David to Americans, or Versailles used to be to the French, when it was still outside of Paris! Potsdam used to have 18 buildings, when it was chosen to become a summer retried. Every generation build several parks and normally two to three castles. Later other family's added there own castles and to make the town more beautiful the lords build other buildings, like fire stations as little castles! Labor shortage caused the king to call for immigrants from other parts of Germany or Europe. The people where asked if they could build in there traditional style of there home. Potsdam has the highest concentration of monuments and castles in the world. Ordinary citizens where given great amounts of money as gifts, if they liked to life in copy's of castles from other country's. Potsdam has a unbelievable collection:

Villages in Russian style, quarters in Dutch style, including the plants, a village in Norwegian Dragon style, entire streets copied from Italy. Chinese pavilions build in 1760`s( They mixed by accident rococo, baroque and Chinese) Greek temples,
Egypt style monuments and little Pyramids, even entire French quarters and early american architecture. British Timber-frame farms dot the landscape as well. Build for quality by contractors from those country's! Swiss cottages settle in gigantic parks with Greek monastery in between. Some buildings are new creations like buildings made from tree bark or that look like tents. Water pump stations become Arabic mosque and high schools where build as baroque french castles! Ruins where build as well and buildings with no purpose but to look at. That is Potsdam. Gigantic Parks, many lakes, deep forests and dozen's of castles and entire streets full with Italian Palazzo`s!
