I don't know, but this denkmal, monument is so ugly! I think it is too much soviet style. You should tear down it!

I have no hopes that they will rebuild Garrison Church... accusations of nazism symbols and bla-bla-bla.... these cliches will ruin the project.

Tragic if true. The Garrison Church reflects the nazis no more than the name of the city, or the nation for that matter. Such absurdities are, however, reflective of emotionally off-balanced individuals who are sadly stuck in a historic time warp.

In truth, I do not even believe these people feel the way they claim; rather they know putting this BS forth will get attention and achieve their own end game.

Garnisonkirche is on its way, don't you worry!

I wouldn't mind those crybabies in connection with the Garrison Church. It actually was a quick decision in March 1933, since the Reichstag hall burned out half a month earlier. The Garrison Church really had no meaning to the Nazi regime, or a deeper symbolism as some protesters suggest. It's all farting in the wind.

This is what we've got rebuilt of the Church Tower already thanks to donations, the weather vane for the top - and more to come in the course of this year:

We will get it back and it's gonna be geil, magnificent, mezmerizing!

Hello! To my knowledge the church will be rebuild with the same technique. But that decision is not 100%, but 80%. Money is already there. If not enough, the tower will be rebuild first for now. No worries as erbse said.

About that nazi story: The former DDR replaced the population of Potsdam slowly by moving hard core communists to Potsdam. The city used to be completely against communists. After the "wende" The former Communist Party has changed names a few times ever since. Luckily there Party is going down in Potsdam. The city itself is a boomtown now
and will see 25% more Population in the next years. Anyway. Several of the leaders of that left Party, or whatever there current name, life in city owned apartments.
They pay around $80 rent a month for 150 sq m2 or 1650 sq feet a month, heat and tax included! In downtown! Parking included! Now the city as landlord is loosing money. Other peoples Tax money!
Like Margaret Thatcher once said:" Socialists first problem: Running out of other peoples money!"
So the city likes to kick them out and renovate the buildings. Now, our communist leaders decided to take 10 -15 subjects, regardless of its importance, like the church reconstruction and make as much pain as possible. The idea: Force the major to keep the rent down and use projects like this church as blackmail subject.

That`s why the selected Hitlers only one visit, witch took 10 minutes, as an excuse.
They also used or fabricated other excuses. Like telling the students of a school close,
that there school would have to be demolished and the students would have to commute half an hour every day. Just an example. It`s sad. I like to spare you the rest. But this is kinda good news, too! No one believes them anymore! I am also glad, the communists don`t have nuclear missiles anymore. They must have had to much alcohol.

I have more good news: There are 10 different reconstruction projects in Potsdam right now. Love to see more pictures, please!

Another good news: After Dresden, Potsdam and Frankfurt another town has decided to copy downtown after war reconstruction in large scale: The town of Luebeck is planning to do so with 40 houses!

I don't remember Potsdam having a proper international airport, but neighboring Berlin... Oh, wait.

You can get cheap plane tickets to Berlin. Take the S-bahn to Potsdam. Takes 30 min. Hotels are cheap in Potsdam.

There aer no excuse for not going. BTW: The surrounding area (Babelsberg/Wansee) is very interesting, - a real gem.

For the construction of Palast Barberini, you can always check the webcam for progresses:

According to this article, the currently U/C Palazzi Chiericati and Pompei next to the already reconstructed Potsdam City Palace and Palast Barberini (see webcam above) are selling like hot cakes! Reconstructions in great locations are among the safest investments for sure!

Yeah, them ol' Prussian Fritzes were known as admirers of Italian renaissance and baroque, enlightenment and stuff.

There are other constructions and proposals, when I take some time I can show a proper overview. Anyone else is invited to do so first, of course. There's various projects at the first pages as well, of course.
