Now to another reconstruction. Let's go to the Dutch Quarter's rebuilding.
The houses where demolished in the 1980's due to material shortage.

at the lower right corner of the square. The Dutch quarter is bigger. Most houses survived.

The entire block next to the church was razed!

It's all coming back!

Just before demolition 1988!

different ideas. Some where funny.

July 2014. The church next to it is called "French Church" It was build for french immigrants. The Dutch Quarter for Dutch settlers, of course.

Have they collected enough money for statues that were on the roof of the Stadtschloss? The palace seems so "empty" without them...

There's still some contention with the Humboldt University of Berlin, their main building at Unter den Linden has some of Potsdam's statues along its ridge.

Here they are:

More of the Dutch Quarter:

source: thanks, potsdam-fan

And now Ladies and Gentleman, let us move from The Dutch Quarter to the Norwegian Village, please! If you be so kind and follow me, please!

The Norwegian Village is made out of many buildings in different areas. But at one location, several buildings are put together to make it look like a village! The buildings where used for different uses, like parts storage or class rooms or roofed dry docks and everything needed for the Kaiser port plus restaurant. Unfortunate everything is ether gone at WW2 or uninhibit for some time now. But now the buildings will be restored and rented out, the port and restaurant rebuild.
The German Kaiser made an order 1892 to the Norwegian Architect Holm Hansen Munthe to build and design everything in Norway and ship it down!
The name for the port is Kongsnaes

This is a model of the main building, which will be rebuild inside out!

This little building is also a reconstruction. It was build looking like a Gothic chapel. It was used as library for hundert's of books! Construction happen from 1792 to 1794 by the lakeside [Heiligen See] The books where shipped away in the 1920's. Unfortunate the books and the chapel as well were destroyed during WW2. It so happen that 1992 was the 1000 Year birthday of Potsdam! So the city of Berlin donated 1.6 million for the re-erection to show it's gratitude toward the secret capital of Germany.

OMG, I found some pictures on Arstempano showing prewar Potsdam. I cried a little bit...

For those who don't know, Arstempano contains pictures of prewar Potsdam and Dresden, how they look today, some ornaments in the making, etc. You have got to see it yourself, it's brilliant and your eyes will pop out.

Let's move to a current reconstruction. This reconstruction does not kinda involve a building, but like more important, the city "furnishings" and looks of the central market square. No little steps here.

That is the Ringer Colonnade. Called after Mr Ringer, the designer.

After the war, a part that survived the war was moved into the castle's park.
Now we will see them moved and refinished!!
Current location, a few hundert meter of:

The group of statues is being expanded with donations at the moment, too!

damaged by time

The new place to put them:

pictures by potsdam-fan.Thanks
The main square will be restored!!!!Unbelievable.

Yes, give me some time. I have little time at hand. There is so much more to show you people. I am looking for it.

It used to look like this:

There are Statues as well. The statues are in a workshop at the moment.

This is a very interesting picture. It will give you some ideas:
Picture is open for public use:

The pink buildings survived the war. The yellow will be somewhat rebuild, the orange ones faithfully reconstructed like original.

Its called Ringerkolonnade because of the sculptures standing between the columnes.

I count only 7 columns on the part that survived, but there were originally 14? Will the rest be reconstructed, or they are only putting back the 7 columns that survived?

Looks like there's a road now where the remaining 7 columns originally stood, so I guess the answer is no. :/
