Not sure when it will start, but they better hurry as the original intent was to have the church finished as part of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation and associated commemorations, which is in 2017.

I think that there is no possible way to finish it as early as 2017. I mean, it's not just the construction that you have to take into consideration, there are neo-communists or people without higher education that think the church was built by Nazis, large financial structure of about 40m €, and I'm not sure, but there's also a commieblock that might make some problems with space. I'm starting to think that this church is not meant to be.

The Garrison Church is pretty much under way. Planning is approved, application processes filed, donations went strong. It will be build and it will be magnificent!

Though of course I'm not sure if the tower could be finished by 2017 already, but that would be indeed supergeil.

Do you have a source for that? The latest news item I could find (http://www.pnn.de/potsdam/1004771/, less than a month old) talks about three possible outcomes, only one of which has the entire church rebuilt by 2023. True, if I understand correctly, the article seems to contradict itself: it ends with saying that a building permit for the tower has already been issued and will not be negotiated, while one of the three scenarios listed before is 'no tower until at least 2045'. So either I am missing something or the article is wrong, but still, it is a lot less optimistic then you appear to be.

Needless to say I hope you can prove this article wrong

2045?! It's not a cathedral with ten domes, each one being bigger than the other. Maybe the date has something to do with the end of WW2, but the logical year would be 100 years after its demolition or 100 years after Hitler made it famous(or infamous). Either way , the article seems rather suspicious.

It will be definitely no date that could be connected to Nazis in any way!

Reconstruction moves ahead of the Keller Tor Wache

source Konstantindeeger, thanks

People are talking about the lighting situation by Quartier Barberini:

The original

source Brandenburger, thanks

Let's move to the Pfingstberg park.
Villa Henkel, Reconstruction finished

not too far this:

thanks Potsdam-fan
The owner has problems with his "tearer downer" or 'fixer upper"
The neighbor want's to keep the park. Well, without the house. So the owner is supposed
to tear it down and do nothing with the land.
Anyway, he has a ridiculous lawsuit on his neck. I don't think he will loose.
There is also ammunition from the soviets in there!

The alte Post reconstruction has started:

thanks Konstantindeeger

Reconstruction and rebuilding in "Breite Strasse" are moving

The gutters are uninspired!

The 'West Palais"

The 'York Palais' on the York Strasse used to look like this:

Let's move to another reconstruction, not mentioned here before:
Villa Persius is finished on the outside!

I also like to point out some problems the Potsdam Parks and garden has:
They can't find a use for this building:

They also have problems with the smallest castle. It was used for hunting trips!
" Hunting's Schloss Stern"
This one:

Unfortunately the DDR used a herbicide that kills everything, including people!
I guess they wanted to be worry free for 1000 Years!

Also some news about the Schloss "Neue Palais"

source, Brandenburger

The Grotten Saal is a complete Reno. Has been finally finished after two Years! The walls are made out of mussels, minerals and precious stone! But mostly mussels and snake houses! Ash, snail houses, I meant!-)

Potsdam-fan
The castle "Neue Palais" is in the Park Sanssouci

The Grotten Saal design was inspired by Kaiser Wilhelm II himself. He had a good sense of design and architecture and in addition to providing design ideas for architectural projects, he designed some of his wife's jewelry including a tiara.

@The Eagle, you should be a little more careful with your use of "reconstruction". Some of the projects are not actual recontructions but so called "critical constructions" or completely new buildings with only some references to the building once occupying it's spot.

Villa Persius, for example.

Will the Alte Post building be a complete reconstruction or one of those mish-mash proposals that were shown few pages back?

Yes, lools like a modernized pastiche. I don't see any point in it. You might reconstruct the building faithfully or build an absolutely new one on its place, each way might be preferrable under some circumstances. But such "in-between" makes no sense. Reminds those simplified houses that were erected in cities like Cologne right after the war instead of destroyed ones. But back then they had an excuse.
