@The Eagle: These are all really nice photos. But I suggest you use the actual photo forums/threads for these, as the thread at hand is supposed to show actual reconstruction projects. Thank you.

Here are threads that are apt to show general pictures:

POTSDAM | ALBUM @Berlin/Potsdam Forum

The "everybody loves Berlin" thread (also used for Potsdam photos a lot)

Other Potsdam albums at the photo forums. You could also open a new thread at "Urban Showcase" for your own pics, and/or at "Cityscapes" for pics found on the web.

I have been to this park. I was there on a December afternoon. It was very quiet. It is beautiful and haunting - a fascinating and unexpected experience.

I am pleased to see this being restored. I liked Potsdam every much - a charming and handsome city. But I was there before most of this restoration so I hope to return and see it again

Great photos Generator NL!
While I have seen a lot of pictures of things going on in Potsdam your photos really gave me a feel for the place. It really is coming along beautifully. When that ugly university building finally comes down someone has got to post the photos. A lot of people have been waiting for that day.

Will the building on the corner of the Yorckstraße and Friedrich-Ebert-Straße be a reconstructed building or just a modern/old style mixed building?

Unfortunately it will only be a kritische Rekonstruktion (critical reconstruction). Meaning it will resemble the old building, even incorporating some of it's details (like the statues adorning the roof) but will have a modern look.

Small enhancements that would work with the modern theme would greatly improve the integration with the neighboring structures. Details such as rounding the tops of the ground floor windows and doorway; and adding more definition to the relief of the center window/doorway section. Easy to do. Also color. Light grey is the color-of-choice for most modernists, but if the building were finished in pale yellow or light tan, it would capture a greater hint of its baroque neighborhood.

I don't get the point of critical reconstruction. It's not modern and innovative, yet it's not a reconstruction, and the building that stood there deserved to be reconstructed. Now Potsdam will get a mediocre, dull building. Such a shame...

Hello Friends! I had no time or postings, because I had a six weeks French course! That one was hard!

@ erbse: Yes, I know, this is not a photo Thread. You are right! The question is:
Does anyone knows Potsdam? For Germanys secret Capital, like Versailles in France or camp David in the States, no one has an idea.
That is why I post picks. To give people some background. Construction does not move that fast either. It's an emotional and knowledge helper of sorts. Summer camp of the government!

Not a construction pick either, but very helpful is this from 1980.

Skopje could learn a thing or two...

I hope the colonnade will be cleaned in the future. Are there plans to reconstruct the other colonnade that stood next to the palace?

There's a boulevard running through where the second colonnade used to be. To return the second colonnade to its original site, the boulevard would have to be closed, or at least re-routed. That doesn't seem likely.
