Update from the Gatehouse (Keller Tor Wache) re-construction by the canal
In the back the Flora tower

The columns will be clad in Sandstone later. The owner wanted Sandstone only. But the architect insisted

Nice corner lot! Downtown, two sides waterfront with garden

The former city wall and gate to close the canal by attack.

Thanks, Brandenburger

Something funny from the Old Post office (wannabe or supposed to be) re-construction:

You know this one

Before

December pictures

It`s not Deutsche Bank (Btw. owned by Americans) like I said before. It is going to be a branch from the Berliner Volksbank.
But anyway. The looks of the future fašade is still in a big limbo according to different parties. There is an arguing about the color scheme for example. The owner (The Bank) likes gray sandstone, while the downtown administration decided beige sandstone to be used back 2010. Other groups don`t like that it is not a re-constriction in very detail

But the fun starts with this: The statues

From the six original statues are three still in existence and will be cleaned and re-used. The Bank doesn't like only three statues and want`s four. But not all six!
But story gets better! Every statue represented a Continent.
So we have from the old Post office Europe, Asia and Africa as seen on the picture above. The bank is adding America.
I guess they don`t make money in South America and Australia!

That's what happens when the city doesn't support its interests in the fight with huge corporations.

Thanks for the updates Eagle. Just when I was wondering what was going on with that ugly communist era yellow building you gave your update. Thanks!

Those new parts at the colonnade is giving a strange apperance. Is it possible to make them darker?

It's actually much better to restore the black ones, so both the new and the old parts would be able to age together. Also, adding a fake patina is not the smartest thing to do if you want people to embrace reconstruction projects, as it can be viewed as pastiche (although, some people will still complain about everything).

That is actually so funny! On the APH Forum, they have the same conversation.

My friend Potsdam-fan showed those pictures to give some idea about the timeframe we talk here.

1982 or 1983, some statues have been replaced by copies

early 2015

He also pointed out, that the air is much cleaner now.

Synode Berlin-Brandenburg-schlesische Oberlausitz (EKBO)

The Evangelical Lutheran Church is supporting the reconstruction of the tower of the Garrison Church in Potsdam with a loan of 3.25 million euros . This was decided by the Synod on Saturday in Berlin.

The reconstruction is controversial...

I think it cant be the fault of a Church, that Hitlers and Hindenburgs meeting has taken place there...
