Amazing!

@Eagle: We would like to see more reviews of other cities! Did not knew that there was a reconstruction effort on Lübeck by the way!

Hello, hello back!

Someone wanted to know what they are doing in front of the picture gallery.
It`s mostly exterior maintenance and landscaping.

Thanks, Brandenburger!

And so the park comes together again and the restored putts hop back to their designated places. Just down in front of the picture gallery

Restored wall, some putts are still missing. I like the white against the greenery and blue skies. Every group has a different "theme"

Thanks Spree-tunnel!

While I was putting up the pictures, my girlfriend came in the room. "How cuuuuute! How cute! Sooooo cute those little once!" She almost shouted. I looked at her puzzled and replied: " Are they just cute or is it the fact that some are necked for you?" She left the room without a word. Now she is pissed. I guess I won`t get lucky tonight!

More time for pictures, then!

Today we will have a look about the newest construction updates.

The road is getting re-paved

Thanks, Potsdam-fan!

This is how the interior used to look like. Not being rebuild:

Thanks, Konstantindegeer!

Will be used as museum. Museum for modern DDR paintings. (DDR 1948-1989)

I have been asked, if I could provide inside pictures of the reconstructed church of Sacrow. There is also a big "working" castle with farm behind the woods. Owned by the king himself as kings farm of witch we have several in Potsdam. The grass in all the parks alone is great for animals. So here some picks of the church and the working farm with the castle Sacrow as main building, not shown here before!

was rebuild with many local helpers

Man can get here via water taxi! Love the idea

Farm and Castle Sacrow

The main building. Runs as a castle. A mini castle. Or a poor mans castle. Or a wane be! He he

The is a show right now called: "Gardeners do not fight wars"
It is about the elbow competition between the park destroying border patrol and the gardeners of the Parks and Castles Potsdam. Between 1960`s and 1990`s

Thanks, Potsdam-fan!

The expedition in the castle as TV documentary. In German only. But the pictures are good

Let`s have an update in the "Breite Strasse"

Now becoming condos

Used to be offices

Thanks, Konstantindegeer!

Used to be before 1785. there was a timberframe structure. There was a whole bunch of timberframe houses that survived only 20 Years or so. The reason: The foundation of the buildings where not solid enough. There was a big piss about that construction mistake by the 1780`s. Many buildings had to be replaced. At least the new buildings became out of stone and in proper baroque!

before 1785

That modern version does look nice, but it would have been even nicer to get a more faithful interpretation of the original building.

This should, however, show Dresden how you build a modern building which remains respectful to the original building!

And some updates for today from the plot of the post-office:

thanks, Potsdam-fan

The figures will return later

I have here some interesting facts about the history and planning's that never came to be:
This is before 1945. Build by Mr. Unger as Post office. The Postal distance Columns on top where already gone

After damages replaced by this during DDR. The art on the side has been saved and relocated

This was the plan in the 1990`s

After an outcry, an commission came up with a re-construction 1:1 wrapped in a "elephant cage" for modern appearances!

Because this was more expansive than the re-construction itself, the association "Pro Potsdam", witch owns the plot, decides to re-construct only

The Bank, that buys the plot likes to build differently:
Not like this

Instead like this:

The association has no choice but to sell to the Berliner Volks Bank, because a waiting for someone else is too expansive for the association and needs to sell the plot fast.
The Berliner Volks Bank does something weird:
They spend the same money for the façade then they would have for a re-construction. But not for the re-construction, but for cladding the front completely in stone. Some parts where meant to be covered in Stucco/Putz/Plaster. (The statues will come later). And that`s what we get:

thanks, Konstantindegeer.

In total a very nice project. No re-construction, but money wasn't the problem

And last but not least, another re-construction is moving along, not mentioned here before.

The "Eagle fountain" is moving ahead.

source, Potsdam-fan

This is how it will look like

source: Carl Graeb vermutl. SPSG

There are other re-constructions that I have not jet covered! Like the two private Swiss houses in the Swiss colony. (Yes, Potsdam has a Swiss colony, too!
I will try to get more pictures

Potsdam is so beautiful - it will be even more magnificent.

Hello everybody and welcome back!
Today we have a bigger update and some beautiful pictures to cover.
I also have very, very interesting how-to-do picks from inside a construction.
So sit back, relax and enjoy.

First, I was contacted by user Potsdam-fan from the APH Forum. He informed me that there is no final decision on the "Eagle Fountain" to finish it just jet. So it stays interesting and like this for now:

In the next part we get a good view on the "Keller Tor Wache" project. Witch is really a great private re-construction. Especially since its owner puts pictures in the forum himself.

The project is moving slower, because the "Stuckateur" called plasterer specialized in artwork is putting up stucco inside. But now, the stucco work outside is getting on its way!!

Thanks, owner Konstantindegeer!

The stucco/Stuck was used in the old times, because real stone was too expansive!

Lets talk professional. The huge stucco border is being done the old way. The only difference is the usage of metal mesh instead of wood mesh. The long lastingness is several generations. Rough gray lime Putz/stucco will be applied in layers using fine and white one at last. Lasts for ever, earthquake resisted (only cracks) and has character of the maker.
After that, a stencil gliding on a extra installed rail is used to give it the last touch...

Almost finished. Man can see the stencil rail out of metal

Inside the metal mesh. After adding several layers...

Around the corner it goes....

This is the stencil or former plate to work to a fixed routine

picks from owner of the house and user Konstantindegeer, thanks!

Let`s move to the Norwegian village. The last Kaiser was like many a Norway fan. After Aalesund burned down he helped finance and plan the rebuilding of the Norwegian town. 1914, the Kaiser was on vacation in Norway, when the elected Parliament informed him that GB and France had declared war. They had to rush him back on German soil.

This is to become the old/new location of the Kongsnaes
The building will be added a kitchen gladded in wood and flat roof, of course

quelle: MAZ, Buro Zeplin, Berlin

The kitchen is already there. The rest will be assembled later this year, witch will take only one, two days

The port is quite

It is hard to make out the other Norwegian Houses behind the trees. They will get a face lift by the same people

Many people are curious. Could become a top destination restaurant in Dragon style (except for the kitchen in Bauhaus)

Royal Louise under sail. She was stationed here. Kongsnaes was the former Boat club for his majesty

This road is called Swan Avenue. The project took so long, because some residence are worried about traffic increase.

thanks, potsdam-fan!

Let`s have a look to the Build of the Volksbank, aka old Post Office

I thought, you might like to see it closer. The pipes are to hold the signage. That way, no holes need to be drilled in the façade. Cool idea

from Konstantindegeer, thanks!

From the York Street

From Friedrich Street

from Potsdam-fan, thanks!

Reconstruction of the waterworks in Park Babelsberg has finished. In the year 1918 the water was turned off. Now 2016, the water has now been turned back on. Instead of a steam machine pumping the water up the hill into a pond and running throe its weight down, there is now a electric motor.

The windows are like the one 150 Years ago without wooden interceptions. Back then they where the worlds first cross free glass panels.

re-build water fountain

Grand opening of the Park with Government Ministers and tons of Media, national and international

The windows. In one piece like the original.

Gothic

Thanks, Potsdam-fan!

Talk between Parks director Mr. Doberloh and Minister for Culture Mrs. Gruethers:

G; Who paid for all this?
D; No one! We put it on Your Credit card!-)
G; What?
D; Don`t you worry! You get 1% cash back!
G; Just too nice of You! Why didn't you use real gold, then?
D; Just my opinion, too!-)

Babelsberg part two. Now we check out the re-build waterworks!

The artificial waterfalls are back!

There is a waterfall straight down

In the back of the castle

here is the Eagle Colum. Or will be, to put it better

Lion well

Media from all TV stations

Over the other side is the Italian village. We will cover that later. There is no construction going on and this is a construction thread, so I wait for a good excuse to show "construction" pictures.

Wilhelm Bridge. With Media for the Grand opening

The Wilhelms well

Thank You, Potsdam-fan!

I hope, it is alright for me to post so many pictures?
