The "Richtfest" celebration on the 24 March 2017! The private owner who loves old cars and houses showed himself pleased about the coverage here in the internet. In Germany, this type of weather is generally nicknamed "Kaiser weather" because it is so beautiful. So, therefore Kaiser weather for the Kaiser`s Yacht club!

Let the "Richtfest" celebrations begin!

This is the owner. He had to battle the neighbors. They where worried about new traffic at their road to the new restaurant

The different flags represent different contractors and their countries:

The roof cladding will be in wood.

downtown Potsdam: More for something "Tarzan" themed!

pictures from Potsdam-fan.
The newspaper stated that the opening will be late summer!

Our friends, the wannabe communists have tried to destroy the billboards of the Church reconstruction project! Such delightful characters! I like to meet one! I have some surprise for them! They also put up some nasty graffiti. But I know why: No one listens to them. Anyway:

The exhibition building has been Paintballed!

This will be torn down

Awesome pictures from Potsdam! Good to see that more and more is reconstructed.

Does anyone know when will the Kanal be reopened?

Yes, right after our farmers next grass harvest.

But please give them Germans some credit. They are not Dutch. They build that thing. They build it nice. You can even grow cucumbers in it. But operating it, well, they are not Dutch!

I don't know the next opening of Atlantis. They may sell tickets for the event of flooding, I don't know.

Update about the old market.
This will be demolished this fall:

source Vulgow, thanks.

Properties are for sale. The winners do not win by the highest bid, but by idea of usage, reconstruction and so on...
The black arrows are entrances for underground parking.

The "Keller-tor-wache" deserves an update!

source Potsdam-fan!

The Putz/stucco/Plaster works

The debate is now: Should the color be Potsdam Yellow or Royal Red??? The building had both in his history.

Greetings from the Soviet union:

First Parking lot, then canal, then house.

A little bit shy towards the street.

The owner is on the picture.

Southside, Fisherstreet. What do You think: Shall the house be in Yellow or Red????

The gardenside, after approval by the owner. City wall on the left.
Did You know: City-walls where not always for defense in Europe? Some like here where a Tax border.
Taxes had to be paid at the city gates! This helped against smugglers!
As a matter of fact: This used to be a gatehouse for the canal entrance.

Looking from the future park to be. The property border is by the tree. Waterfront is public. So if You like to visit Potsdam....

I think the gift from the soviet union should be given back.

Are there any plans to demolish that hideous 60's hotel (I think it's a Mercure at the moment) which totally dominates and ruins the area around it. 60's architecture at it's most banal.

^ There were, Hasso Plattner (SAP founder and philanthropist) initially wanted to buy and demolish it.
But that didn't materialise, so Plattner rebuilt the Palais Barberini for his art museum.

It's not too unlikely the Mercure Hotel will get torn down some day, but most probably way after 2020.

A clever and concerned environmentalist should step forth and claim the hotel property is contaminated by poor soviet style building practices and must be removed at once.

Hello all together and nice to have everyone back!

Today we have a lot to cover. The former customs building on the canal aka Keller-tor-wache is on our bucket list. Also on our list is the reconstruction of the royal Yacht club. After that we will take a peek at a fašade reconstruction. We will also jump back and forth Potsdam, Germanys secret capital, to get You the best shots possible!
Lets get started.

Just a little bit color and some decoration and we will have another treasure!
The Keller-tor-wache is looking like this:

Now some pictures from the new owner of this house. "The best place for breakfast in Potsdam" he titled! True. The piece of Styrofoam insulation on these pictures is for the kneeing only. No Styrofoam used in this build!

pictures from Konstantindegeer, thanks!

The Norwegian Village is owned by the same Gentleman that owns the Kongsnaes. The buildings will be renovated and vitalized next. Lets have a stroll and take a look at the different buildings to give as a feeling of this place. The owner wants to rent them out.

Some buildings have minor details missing. All the Norwegian details will come back.

All different houses along the street. They where used to house sailors or store and fix spare parts. Or as canteen house.

Nice one. The window is not original. I wonder of what roofing material their putting.

I hope they change the color. Don't know if this is a typical Norwegian color scheme.

A nice house

The stupid kitchen

Like from the movie "How to train Your dragon:" "All houses are new because we have here in Bergen large pests." lol

Now back to the Charlottenstrasse 109.
We remember how it used to look like:

Now, the project is finished. A Insurance moved in.

Let us move to the Charlottenstrasse 100. The statues on the roof came back a little while ago. Project finished, too. Well done.

Charlottenstrasse 102 is now under renovation:

Thank You, Potsdam-fan!

Lets move to the former high school in the Dortustrasse. This project is very interesting. After the war, space was at a premium. The building was turned into a high school. Original build and finished in the year 1770 for residential use as a Palais of a nobleman. Build under the supervision of Carl von Gontard. The students of the Albert Einstein Schuhle studied under original stucco and light fixtures of the baroque area! The building will see a reconstruction of the fašade with added stucco and will see many originals redone like the stairs and windows. 22 Condos will move in. The projects name is "Palais de Gontard". A Palais is the term of a Schloss without garden or park and Mr. Gontard, who build this was the royal City planner at that time.

2016

The fašade will be partly reconstructed:

Summer 2016

Is this beige color? I hope so. Looks better in a gray November.

Today. The waterfront is head on. The canal has to be put in here to connect it. On the left the new ugly government block.

Potsdam-fan, thanks.

Music Pavilion. Location is right next to Sanssouci Schloss. It is a reconstruction. Live music in Summer. Most of the times for free from music students.

unity, thanks!

The whole area has come a long way:
Wilhelm-Staab-Srasse 6. The street was rebuild in the 50`s

Now a different project. The city is growing. This is the project "Neu Fahrland". Some old buildings will be renovated and reused. Most buildings are new. I like to show You people this, to give an idea of how new parts look like.

Used to be like this. On the left towards Potsdam downtown.

The timberframe Park-restaurant Nedlitz. 20`s or 30`s

Today, will be reopened as restaurant.

sources are from Potsdam-fan.

I guess it to some degree is. I guess the biggest collection of "similar" looking buildings are the railroad stations on Gj°vikbanen (Oslo-Gj°vik), built in the early 1900s. https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunner_stasjon
