I wish downtown Dallas was that crowded today like it was back in 1953.

Fort Worth’s former Greater Southwest International Airport

In 1964 the Federal Aviation Administration decided it no longer wanted to fund separate airports for Dallas and Fort Worth. In 1965 a parcel of land north of Greater Southwest was selected for what is now the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. American Airlines expanded its headquarters to new buildings on the airport site during the 1980s and 1990s.

Before and After: The Devastation of the 1953 Waco Tornado (2) by The Texas Collection, Baylor University, on Flickr

"A massive tornado that was believed to have registered as an F5 hit Waco, Texas, on May 11, 1953. The storm caused the deaths of 114 people, many of whom were in the downtown area. The Waco city square with the Waco City Hall in its center is seen in the before (left) image taken in about 1951 by Fred Marlar. The after shot (right), by the photographer D.R. Dietrich, shows a similar aerial view of the same location after this catastrophic storm damaged or destroyed much of the area."
