In London where there is the opportunity to have immigrants from every level in society, poor, middle class and rich, it shows that crime still follows the age old rule of class not race, its your (lack of) money and opportunities that is more of a deciding factor for immigrant or native alike. As someone mentioned, the world's most multicultural cities, such as Toronto, Dubai, Doha etc (55-85 percent immigrants) also have some of the lowest crime rates on their continent, and even though many of their new arrivals are poor. in 2006, japan is the lowest murder rate country , 1.1 per 0.1 million population. while china is 1.63 per 0.1million population. jiangsu province(my province) 0.98 ,that's quite low.

I'd say of cities with populations greater than 20 million, Shanghai must be one of the safest in the world. I've never felt unsafe being outside after dark here, in any part of hte city. Pretty much the only crime that seems to happen here is petty stuff like scams and pickpocketing, but if you're aware of that you can avoid it very easily.

The five largest cities of Brazil in the urban area are:
1. Sao Paulo: 1.550 km ˛ ![]() 2. Brasilia: 700 km ˛ (sources include nearby cities, called satellite cities in the Brazilian Federal District, which would result in 5,800 km ˛). ![]() 3. Rio de Janeiro: 560 km ˛ ![]() 4. Curitiba: 320 km ˛ ![]() 5. Belo Horizonte: 290 km ˛ image hosted on flickr

Toronto is probably the safest on the American continent . At least it is the safest among the great cities of Canada.

I've recalled a fact about a Russian city of Elista which is situated in Southern Russia and is completely different from other Russian cities as it has numerous Buddhist temples.
There's a big chess board on the central square where everyone can play chess without cost - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi.../Shaxmaty2.jpg And the funny (or maybe actually sad) thing is that most Russians visiting Elista find it very strange that nobody has stolen or broken the pieces. ![]() I haven't studied actual figures on crime rate in Russia (they are not trustworthy and can be lowered by local authorities), but this city seems to be somewhat safer compared to other Russian cities (but still unsafe by Western standards). |

I think that Hong Kong is the world's safest major city. Maybe Tokyo and Singapore are very safe too.
Singapore has capital punishment though. If some douchebag sneaks some drugs in your bag. You are screwed. Last edited by shree711; September 7th, 2012 at 03:08 AM. |

I would say US cities are some of the safest. I live here and I'm rarely a victim of crime.

Well my house has been robbed twice, my car broken into once. So only 3 incidents.
But I also lived in a relatively high crime area when these incidents happened. I feel very safe in most places in the US. Crime is very concentrated. |
