Most of the crew were based in Southampton, and this was where the ship made its main stop-off as well as where it was stocked with supplies. It's undeniable that all 3 places have as strong a connection to titanic as each other, but it just so happens that Belfast got there first at the end of the day.
The bulk of crews were hired for each voyage, or a series of voyages. If Titanic left from Liverpool it would have had a predominately Liverpool crew. It was to stop in Liverpool on the way to Southampton, but that was changed at the last minute (maybe because of the coal strike) a lot more of the crew then would have been from Liverpool. The top essential core of the crew were from mainly from Liverpool or Liverpool based - like all the top engineers.

Spot on. Many of the components were built elsewhere. Engines, control equipment, brass fitting, props, etc. Does anyone regard Queens Mary & Elizabeth as being Glasgow ships. The port associated with them is Southampton, although having Liverpool on the sterns.

"During Titanic’s construction, 246 injuries were recorded, 28 of them “severe”, involving severed arms by machines or legs crushed under falling pieces of steel.

Six workers died on the ship itself while it was being constructed another two died in the shipyard workshops and sheds. Just before the launch, a worker was killed from a falling wooden support."

Appalling. Add another 9 deaths to those at sea.

Bit late, but yes they are "clydebuilt".

Quote:
Term Once applied Meaning 'Quality', refers to the once thriving Shipbuilding industry on the River Clyde in Scotland. Greenock, Clydebank, and Glasgow were home to most of the Clyde Shipyards.
Some examples : Had the Titanic been Clydebuilt it would still be afloat! ''I thought it was built in Ireland?'' Yea! nuff said!

I have nothing against the Titanic ship, (sorry about the deaths).

It annoys me and many others in Belfast the way people think it was the only ship we built.

Not at all there was a whole ship building industry here going back to the 1860s/1870s.

I mean this with the greatest respect but oh no please tell me people don't think that

Harland and Wolff was set up as a ship building company and they built a whole lot more than Titanic. Uniguy can fill you in better if he reads this.

For example during WW2, the company built 140 ships [probably of various sizes] despite being bombed. It was one of the reasons the Nazis bombed us.

We built HMS Olympic (Titanic's sister ship) as well as HMS Canberra and others.

Some guy was on local radio and he said that Titanic is hyped so much that you'd think it was the only ship built here, but that isn't the case.

At one stage 30,000 people were employed in H + W. We had one of the largest ship building places in the world.

Here's a list of some of the ships built here.

What an utterly pointless post. A pic of one of the Olympic class ships being built in one a century ago, and an almost contemporary one of a retired light ship in Liverpool city centre. I fail to see the connection, unless you're referring to Albion House, the White Star headquarters on the left of the Liverpool pic.

I can't believe a thread about one ship has spawned a 6 page thread.

(I know I'm not innocent.)
