This image puts into perspective how far the traditional CBD is from the lake shore. First Canadian Place is about 1 km from the water. All these new buildings south of the Gardiner Expressway are doing a great job of re-connecting that area back to the city. Before it always felt severed.

One York Street indeed looks fat. But these towers are great.

The first condo tower launched in April, and has sold extremely well (75%+), so it is essentially a go at this point. The other tower apparently launches in the fall, and I expect it to do equally well.

also, can a mod kindly change the thread name to:

TORONTO | The Harbour Residences, 1 York | 233m | 66 fl | 224m | 62 fl | 163m | 35 fl | Prep

August 2nd by someMidTowner. Amazing night time shot. Parking lot to the left will be the 65-storey Ten York, which should start breaking ground within a month or so. L-Tower is in the background just about topped off.

The city is finally starting to get stitched back together after being dissected first by the rail lines and then by the Gardiner Expressway. Both will still exist, but buildings like this will mitigate against them.

Forgive me if it has been asked/discussed before, but has there ever been any talk of burying the Gardiner Expressway, like they did in Boston with I-93?

Burying the Gardiner and/or the rail tracks have been debated quite extensively for the past 20+ years. With each passing development along the rail tracks it becomes technically more difficult and expensive to do. The rail tracks will likely be decked over rather than buried.

The Gardiner is more likely to be altered. Chunks of concrete keep falling off it and a decision has to be made within the next few years. There are 3 options being considered: a complete rebuild of the Gardiner, burying the Gardiner, or a partial take down in the downtown only.

There's no indication which direction they will go, but the exit ramp next to this lot will be shortened so that the circular bit in front of this building won't exist at all. It will be a park as depicted below:

Damn 4 cranes. Why do they need so many?

It's a pretty large site. I could be wrong, there may be 3 cranes, but drum118 mentioned there will be 4 cranes and generally he's spot on.

There are 2 cranes up and a crane base for the 3rd crane on site. Then once they excavate the remainder of the site (the east end), there will probably be the 4th and final crane.
