I haven't seen a render, but here is part of the site plan. Again, sorry about the quality - it's from the city's webcast. Kennedy/Grand Central to the north.

Agreed, that is one massive garage. At 10 stories it's going to dwarf everything around it for the most part. Hopefully they dress it up a little bit and not have it be just 10 stories of grey concrete, otherwise it would be quite the eyesore.

In Tampa? Never....

Trying to figure why you saw light poles for a parking lot near Kennedy if the layout looks like that.

Remember, that hulking disaster of a garage the PA built won a design award.

Expect an eyesore, and pray for common sense to someday prevail.

One can dream I guess.

And that is what is stumping me, because it's not like it's just a line of them for the sidewalk, they extend pretty far deep into the middle of the lot and go the width of the lot as well.

I just took a look again at the blurry picture koop posted and it's starting to make sense to me. I can make out 'parking ground' on the part near the sidewalk on Kennedy, so that must be for the lights I see. I don't get the retail part though, I wish I could read the rest of that picture.

It is supposed to be an office building and garage with retail on the first floor of the garage. So, parking Ground + 2 Levels just means that the garage is three levels (with the offices on floors 4-9).

That said, I've seen what you have and it is basically just surface parking. I'm perplexed. How is that allowable?

I'm trying to figure out if they might be doing the project in phases. Something I can look at next week.

And I can't find a site plan or rendering of this, not on TGH's website or anywhere else.

If I had some pics of the site, or had been down there recently, I could interpret.

Might be putting in temp parking on portions of the site while the garage is erected... Or you might just be seeing the driveways and surface parking shown above being installed as part of a phased project. (then the garage would be built, then the new office building, then they smash down the existing one and replace it too).

Also, I'm not sure, but wouldn't be surprised if most or all of the surface parking is for handicapped and/or visitor spaces, with employees going in the garage. (I'm sure the garage will also be used to park TGH employees who will then be shuttled to Davis Islands, just like they do now from their big lot over at Willow and Kennedy, that they intend to build on)

Actually, this might be happening. Since they'll likely close off the Kennedy entrance/exit soon after to start construction on the office building. I was kind of thinking that when looking at the layout, but it sounded like there was rows of lights being erected. Maybe read too much into it.

My biggest issue is much more immeadiate. With construction on both sides of the street there are two blocks of Kennedy with no sidewalks or pedestrian pathways. People walking around on kennedy right after the blind turn from Downtown. Very dangerous.

True. Best thing to do is redirect everyone to go up to North A St. and use that as a detour route. Still has some construction with the dorm building, but street is much calmer and you still have one sidewalk in use.

I think HARTride should also contact HART and see what plans are for the bus stop on the TGH site once construction begins.

What I've highlighted is about where the lot is. Depth-wise, it may not be exact since it is a bit hard to tell driving along Kennedy, but as USF said, it definitely stretches the width of the lot.

I think now, with all the new construction in that area, would be a good time for the City to buy the Amscot building at Kennedy/Brevard and tear it down. Then reconstruct/round off that blind curve on westbound Kennedy coming from downtown.

So I just drove by the site today and the whole thing now is surface parking. The erected lights go all the way back and cover the whole lot. The only exception is where the big tree is in the middle.

If what you say is true, then obviously the site plan depicted above isn't the controlling plan.

What hell is going on?

I have no idea. It's tough driving by to get an accurate perception of the layout of the lights and as someone mentioned earlier they could be the lights for the driveways, but it doesn't explain why they go all the way back to the back right corner.

Perhaps, they are building this surface lot and plan to move the parking from the site near the Neighborhood Walmart to this site and then begin construction over there for their other proposed project.

I was going to drive by today, but my agenda took me up into Carrollwood instead. By the time I got back down south, it was too close to rush hour for a joy ride. (I live up near the stadium). I'll be down that way by Saturday. I would really like to know what's up!

But it's site controlled. You can't even construct a temporary lot in that case.
