Interesting thing about the Tram-Train v Bus times, is it is based on the current traffic flow experience on the M8. Guess what, car ownership is booming non-car owning households are acquiring wheels and existing owners are a acquiring a second vehicle, so imagine the impact on schedules of +5%, +10% traffic levels as car ownership booms down the years

Driverless cabs plan for Glasgow Subway
Monday 02 February 2015

A DRAMATIC view of *Scotland’s only underground railway awaits passengers aboard new driverless trains on the Glasgow Subway – popularly known as the “Clockwork *Orange”

The new fleet is about to be ordered as part of the service’s biggest upgrade for 35 years.

Without drivers’ cabs, passengers will be able to see along the tunnel at both ends of the new trains. Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is in the final stages of its five-year quest for a new fleet as part of the £300 million overhaul

Month long closure for Glasgow Subway
Saturday 15 August 2015

GLASGOW Subway will close down for a month next summer to allow modernisation work to be carried out.

Bosses at SPT had hoped the underground network would be able to continue operating while a £282million upgrade was carried out.

It will involve driverless trains and glass screens being installed at the edge of platforms.

But it has now been revealed the Subway will be out of action for four weeks from the start of the school summer holidays next year

Modernization at Govan station continues:

Outside the station, the road has been re-opened. What used to be a dual-carriageway with two lanes each way has been altered, with the old Westbound carriageway now handling the traffic in both directions, and the old Eastbound carriageway being given over to fastlink (still under construction).

Fastlink is for Clyde Fastlink, city's new BRT

BRT is a stretch. It's more like a £40m bus lane now.

Even bus lane is being generous. I like how it completely disappears near the city centre

Network Rail invites tenders to rebuild Glasgow station
Wednesday, December 30, 2015

BRITAIN's infrastructure manager, Network Rail (NR), has invited tenders for a £112m project to rebuild and expand Glasgow Queen Street station, the third busiest station in Scotland

The station currently handles 20 million passengers a year and this is expected to increase to 28 million by 2030. The station's platforms need to be extended to accommodate eight-car EMUs which are being introduced as part of the £742m Edinburgh - Glasgow Improvement Programme (Egip) to electrify the Glasgow Queen Street - Falkirk - Edinburgh line by the end of 2016. Hitachi Rail Europe is supplying a fleet of 70 class 385 EMUs which will be delivered by December 2018

UK: Strathclyde Partnership for Transport announced on March 4 that it had approved the award of a £200m contract to a consortium of Stadler Bussnang and Ansaldo STS to supply a fleet of 17 driverless trains and signalling for the Glasgow Subway.

The contract forms part of a £288m modernisation programme for the 10·5 km circular underground metro line, towards which the Scottish government is providing up to £246m. Services are due to be suspended for four weeks in July and August this year to permit infrastructure modernisation and track renewals

With all this modernisation on the Subway, are there still thoughts of extending the route. Glasgow subway must be one of the few metros in the world still more or less the same size as when it opened.
