You can now see new load bearing steel columns embedded into old structure.

Its about time! That means this will soon start rising higher than the existing structure!

I'm sad to see another international style building gone. The combination of closed mullion, dark glass and step-liked outline is so iconic and so Only-in-NY. It is straight out from a 70's badass movie

NYC still has many many many many of those buildings, but not so many like the one currently UC here.

I'm the opposite. Another 60s and 70s "modernist" monstrosity gone!

The building that this new development is replacing was a very handsome example of the International Style. New York really doesnt have a lot of 1950's International buildings that are of the quality and prominence of the building that this new development is replacing. If everyone thought like you do, the Empire State Building would probably be replaced by a 600m blue glass rectangular prism. You really should try and gain a better understanding of the significance of many of the buildings in Manhattan. There do not currently exist "many many many many" buildings of the International Style that are of the same quality and prominence of this recently-demolished building. Shiny blue glass doesnt make everything better...

I have walked Park Avenue up and down a dozen of times, and from GTC all the way up to around 60th street, there are like dozens of this boxes. You have them in Lower Manhattan and all around NYC. And for the ESB, if they would have kept the former Waldorf hotel, we wouldn┤t have the ESB and the Waldorf at Park Avenue. I think that a certain part of buildings from every era should be protected from being razed to keep the character of a city, but a city should never ever be seen as a museum where time just stagnates. Therefore i really like the renovation of that one building at Madison avenue and the reconstruction of this one. I agree that shiny blue glass doesn┤t mean better immidiatly, but this one is far far far away from that description. It has this sexy 2 stripes at the back, the diagnoal beams and a very interestuing facade and open and bright entrance front, while the building that stood here just had a very bland and boring entrance without any sort of opening itself to the avenue at all.

There's just so many great projects to keep track of. I'm sure it'll get more attention once it pierces the skyline and/or starts cladding

Plus it's a Foster, which i think deserves some extra attention.

They were going pretty good for a while, but activity on the site seems to have slowed down. Anyone know what's up with that?
