My top list of the most beautiful cities in Poland (based on recent trips to Poznan, Gdansk, Krakow, Warszawa, Olsztyn, Elblag and Torun):
1. Krakow
2. Torun

So the list has not changed since 2012 and most likely will never change (link). It would've been different if not the destruction of charming historic capitals of Poland, Warszawa and Poznan during WW2, and also borders shift (cities such as Wilno and Lwow annexed by the Soviet Union).

The only place that I really regret not visiting in Poznan is Gothic (Renaissance crowning of its facade) St. Adalbert's Church with the Crypt of Eminent Citizens, the resting place of Józef Wybicki, who wrote the words of the Polish national anthem, and the urn containing General Jan Henryk Dąbrowski's heart.

Lidzbark Warmiński

* With reconstructed Wydżga Palace, Baroque houses (instead of commieblocks) in the Old Town, renovated Krasicki Summer Palace, Grabowski Palace, Bishops' Castle (including charming Rococo chapel founded by Adam Stanislaw Grabowski), Church of the Holy Cross (founded by Andrzej Stanisław Załuski), Church of St. Peter and St. Paul (beautiful Baroque tower with Potocki coat of arms on top and altar founded by Mikołaj Szyszkowski), city walls and improved museum, "The Pearl of Warmia" will be one of my favourite small cities in Poland. Also, only 12km from Lidzbark Warmiński you'll find amazing Stoczek Klasztorny monastery (founded by Bishop Szyszkowski).

Looks too Disneyland-ish.

Well, if faithful reconstruction of Baroque houses is too expensive, they can always choose retroversion a'la Kwidzyn (~38k inhabitants) Old Town...

In my opinion, it still looks better than commieblocks.

It looks great (from this angle). And nearly anything is better than commieblocks...

I would like to live 1 month in the interbellum, just to see how beautiful the cities were before the war, ah...

But I doubt anyone will destroy those commieblocks. And, mind, Lidzbark Warmiński's old town is unfortunately packed with this ugly stuff (approx. 50% of the old town). What could be fixed, has been already fixed (in retro-version manner).

What's the purpose of the reconstruction of the castle in Poznan? As I understand it, it's not exactly a faithful reconstruction based on a lack of available sources of documentation on the castle.

TBH: Nobody knows ...
I'm from Poland and still don't get what is the point there except childish logic somewhere arround "Hey, these guys have a csastle, those guys have a castle too ... I WANT A CASTLE!"

It's true. The real purpose is unknown . But there were already plans after the war to rebuild the castle for a large part, but they only rebuilt the small buidling.

Although I need to be honest and say it looks really nice from some parts of the city. And there will be a great view from it. Poznan really missed an observation tower/spot. Long ago you could go on the University Tower, but that is closed at the time being.

I am curious how the museum will look like inside.

That street in Wroclaw is lovely!

And the commie blocks in Lidzbark don't look that ridiculous either.

Stop complaining,
Be happy these reconstructions are happening and beautifying the city. They will be appreciated in the future.

I think it looks quite nice. Let the bricks age a little bit and it'll look even better.

I'm not complaining. I'm simply disapponted that there are more and more "dummy" castles and other objects that look like a caricature and cardboard decoration. I know that history is important, but IMO rebuilding o all these objects in a form that is not based on old original plans is a lie. I would rather visit a site with ruins available than a new construction that is based only on "this might have looked like this" ... i don't like to be lied to, and building these new monuments based only on a blurry notion of a historical object IS IN FACT a lie.

But that's of course only my opinion
