There is no german word I know with "Stsch". But According to wikipedia it sounds not very different than our Stettin, maybe a bit softer.

Just go to:
http://translate.google.pl/#pl/en/Szczecin

And press the small speaker icon in the text window for google to read it. It sounds pretty much as it should

There we have it. This sounds very different to me than the audio sample at wikipedia. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...l-Szczecin.ogg

Because you have to change Polish to English, then it sounds correctly like in the link you provided.

Sounds like "Städtchen", German for "small city".

Quote:
Sh - ch(like cheque)- e(like elementary) cin (like shampane cin-cin),

That actually doesn't help.
I stay with the german pronunciation and mumble a bit.

Wałbrzych (Valbzheeh), Dzierzgoń (Dsheshgoen), Szklarska Poręba (Shklaerskae Porehbae) and Strzegom (Stshaegoem) are also nice

At least they have german names too, except for the "worst" - Szczebrzeszyn. I guess we don't have to hide us if it comes to long, for some foreigners not very easy names. For example "Teichwolframsdorf" or "Johanngeorgenstadt" not far from my home town.
