My Top 5 - Krakow (historical capital of Poland, beautiful architecture and historic buildings, untouched during WWII), Lublin (a unique kind of architecture called Lublin Renaissance, city wasn't destroyed much in WWII), Torun (the largest number of preserved Gothic houses in Poland, survived WWII largely intact), Zamosc (an exceptional example of a Renaissance town, not destroyed during WWII), Przemysl (a lovely town situated on seven hills, not destroyed during WWII).
History has not been kind to Poland's architecture and it's really hard to find well-preserved cites. Last edited by Tadek79; July 19th, 2012 at 11:26 AM. |

Sometimes commieblocks aren't that bad. Depends on the context, and if they are restorated tastefully. I quite like some parts of commiblock Lublin:
image hosted on flickr ![]() SANY0217 by ajuc00, on Flickr The problems starts when there are commieblocks near historical architecture, when people don't restore them, or when prople repaint them in crazy colors (and that's unfortunately very popular recently in Poland). |

BTW, in Belfast (New Lodge), we have large blocks as well Bad area to live in (high crime rate)...![]() I've read that best thing for the New Lodge would be to demolish the tower blocks (bad housing) and re-house on the outskirts of Belfast somewhere. Chisinau, beautiful or ugly? ![]()

Travel.au - "If ever you want to see a place blighted by Soviet architecture, this is the spot to visit. Everything is grey, bulky and entirely devoid of style." I know few guys from Moldova...Chisinau is not so poor as you might think. On the other hand, many Moldovans (like Poles) are working abroad (they can easily have Romanian-EU passport).
