The dream project of replicating the ‘Titanic’ and naming it as ‘Titanic-II’ is the brainchild of a billionaire of Australia as reported in skynews of 30th of April 2012.

It would be funded by an Australian billionaire, mining magnate Clive Palmer and a contract has already been awarded to the state-owned Chinese company CSC Jinling Shipyard to build it.

It would be fitted with the latest navigation and communication systems and is scheduled to make its maiden journey from England to America in 2016 – the Chinese would escort it to New York.

As per the announcements, the ‘Titanic-II’ luxury cruise ship would have the same dimensions as the original Titanic which sank on its maiden voyage 100 years ago.

Also, the ‘Titanic –II’ would have nine decks, 840-rooms and there would be the funnels, like the original, but those would be nothing other than decorative dummies and would house a restaurant, a theater and internet café.

In the words of Clive Palmer – his ‘Titanic-II’ would be a tribute to the memory of all those who had worked to make the original ‘Titanic’ possible – the original one had struck an iceberg 100-years ago and 1514 of its passengers had met a chilly, watery grave.

The real Titanic will always be unique, no doubt about it, but this Titanic II is to me a fantastic tribute to this amazing cruise ship... I really am delighted & cannot wait to see it taking shape.

Really, after the new 'FRANCE' ship, another legendary liner is about to revive & sail accross the seas in 2016, as if nothing had happened...

Titanic II to have 'safety deck': Australian tycoon

Australian billionaire Clive Palmer Tuesday said his modern-day version of the Titanic will retain the first, second and third-class divisions of the original and include a new "safety" deck.

Releasing the preliminary plans and drawings for the Titanic II, which is to be built in China, mining tycoon Palmer said the massive vessel would have the original nine decks plus an additional safety deck.

"This is to ensure the vessel is fully compliant with the current regulations which require passenger ships to, as much as possible and practicable, keep the distance from the lifeboat launching area to the waterline as low as possible," Palmer said in a statement to AFP.

"It will also increase the passenger amenity area of the vessel."

The new safety deck will feature proper lifeboats, safety chutes or slides as well as new common public rooms.

Palmer said the upper decks would retain the public rooms, passenger stairs, cabins and other features in similar locations as on the original ship which sank on April 15, 1912 en route to New York after hitting an iceberg.

But the plans by Finnish-based ship design and engineering company Deltamarin also feature new escape stairs and service elevators, while one deck has been re-designed to provide crew accommodation, laundry and machinery.

The flamboyant billionaire said Titanic II's first voyage remained set for late 2016, with the boat due to sail from China to England ahead of her maiden passenger journey to North America. Interest was "overwhelming", he said.

There was scepticism when Palmer announced his ambitious plans in April to construct Titanic II with exactly the same dimensions as its ill-fated predecessor.

Though they were yet to be approved, Palmer said the drawings underlined the commitment of his shipping company Blue Star Line to the project, and would allow Chinese shipbuilders CSC Jinling Shipyard to begin work.

The passenger liner, which will be close to 270 metres long (885 feet), will have an estimated gross tonnage of 65,000 tonnes.

Blue Star Line Chairman, Professor Clive Palmer, today released preliminary plans and drawings (pictured) for the Titanic II project devised by Finnish-based Deltamarin and to be built at CSC Jinling Shipyard.

Of significant interest is a new ‘Safety Deck’ inserted between D and C decks designed to ensure Titanic II is compliant with all current safety and construction regulations.

The project remains on schedule for a first voyage late 2016, with Titanic II to sail from China to the UK before her maiden passenger voyage.

“Blue Star Line’s website continues to receive an overwhelming response from people expressing an interest in receiving regular updates from us or requesting information on how to secure bookings for Titanic II’s maiden voyage,” Professor Palmer said.

Blue Star Line indicates that the commencement of construction at China’s CSC Jinling Shipyard is imminent.

The plans for a ship that has been dubbed Titanic II will be unveiled in New York, according to Australian billionaire Clive Palmer said.

Palmer, one of Australia's richest men, announced plans in April to construct the replica Titanic with exactly the same dimensions as the original.

He will release the design on the Intrepid Museum on Manhattan's West Side during a gala on Dec. 4, according to AFP. The dinner menu will reportedly be the same menu as Titanic passengers were served on the day it say on April 15, 1912.

He plans on having the ship built in China before an initial passenger trip from Southampton in England to New York.

The ship is planned to be the same dimensions of the original and would have the same class separations as the original.

Unlike the Titanic, Palmer has said the new ship would have more safety features and air conditioning.

On Monday, Palmer announced the appointment of Steve Hall, co-author of 'Titanic the Ship Magnificent' as design consultant and historian for the project to ensure the new ship will be a modern replica of the original vessel.

The original Titanic sank on its initial voyage, killing more than 1,500.

Palmer said the rebuild was a tribute to the spirit of the men and women who worked on the original Titanic.

"These people produced work that is still marveled at more than 100 years later and we want that spirit to go on for another 100 years," he said.
