Västernorrland county is a region of Sweden located on a shore of the Baltic Sea. According to the official statistical data (SCB), there are 242.155 people living in the county. The largest urban are is Sundsvall which is a city in the middle of Sweden, located on the shore of the Bothnian Sea (a part of the Baltic Sea), some 395 km. north-east from Stockholm. The city has a population of 50.712 (2010) out of the 96.113 (2011) in whole Municipality. Sundsvall is the seat of Sundsvall Municipality and is well-known for its banking industry.
Other larger urban areas are: Örnsköldsvik, Härnösand, Sollefteå, Kramfors, Timrå.

As of Norra Kajen, it's gone a bit stale since no developer seems interested. I believe local company Mitthem will start building apartments for rent soon.

The new project "Södra Kajen" seems more interesteing, with Skanska as developer:

Other projects in Sundsvall to keep an eye on is the one in Sidsjö (including a 15 fl/50 m highrise that will be Sundsvalls tallest when built) and by Sollefteå based developer SP Fastigheter (http://www.sundsvall.se/Bygga-bo-och...-23-Sodermalm/)

Nice to see projects from Sundsvall. I studied there this year (January till June). I love that city!

Two regulation plans have been approved for Norra Kajen so far and the tearing down of existing buildings and cleaning up of the area have started. Here's what it looked like on aug 14th, 2012):

The red frame to the right is in the process of demolishion. The white cisterns with brown stripes forms the overground part of the sewage treatment plant (plus the white building on their left). I don't know if they too will be destroyed but I hope not, I quite like them.

Here's a view of the whole area. All these large warehouses will be torn down in favour of new cit blocks. That's the plan anyway:

A not so positive article but it lists the ongoing projects in S-vall. Two 14 fl highrises are approved for the mentioned Blomsterängen project but I'm not sure the developer will build that many floors.

I am sorry for letting this thread to sink down so quickly. The thing is that it is quite difficult to find information about the ongoing/planned projects in Västernorrland. However, just a few moments ago I found the two interesting pictures with an interesting structure 'Guldkulan'. Maybe some of you know what kind of project this is and what status does it have?

Haha, I uploaded those two pictures the other day with the purpose of posting it on SSC (not in this thread however, as I will explain) but then forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me and posting the pics dj4life

About the photos. I found those on the internet at various times and it's not photos I've taken myself. They are probably from an exhibition at the Architecture Museum some years ago when they showed models of different cancelled projects.

This particular project in Sundsvall was a proposal of architect Peter Celsing in 1970, for a new civic centre.

Instead of building this, the old warehouses of the site were reconstructed to a new library and museum, "Kulturmagasinet", in 1986. In 2008 there were plans to build a new theatre/concert hall next to Kulturmagasinet, but I think that too got cancelled.

Thankfully not a new project then. I like the Sci-Fi-esque building in itself but it destroys the site and has no relation to its surroundings whatsoever.

Let's not forget Örnsköldsvik when talking about Västernorrland. Örnsköldvik (or Övik) is roughly half the size of Sundsvall but just as good, if not better, when it comes to highrises.

The only highrise currently under construction in Västernorrland is Henrik Forsbergs new Hotel in the Övik harbour: http://www.ncc.se/sv/Byggnader/Offen...-Ornskoldsvik/

Hello,

In Poland (Szczecin) are mounted on steel construction of the bridge, which connects the two banks of the bay Bottenhavet (Sundsvall).

In 2013, the pontoons (with the help of tugs) will be transported to the north of Sweden.
