[Tehran] Toopkhaneh Square Redevelopment

there seems to be massive plans to rebuild the old municipality building on the northern side of toopkhaneh square (now imam square)

the left side of this pic is the north of the square

post any news or info regarding this project (pics etc)

also, here are my views regarding this current render

the project is amazing, however, this current plan in my opinion is awful, the only good thing is the reconstruction of the municipality building

the fact that there is a dugout underground part is very cheap and messy for such place, and the horrible interpretation of the old street shops to copy paste them around the square, especially with those horrible, unmatching meaningless gates, that are seen

the square should be remaid just like how it was 70-90-100 years ago, normal traditional buildings on the side of the streets, the square dimensions should remain the same and the post office building , at least something like it should be built, with the correct architectural style and lay out, not a poor weak interpretation of it

Agreed, it's still nice that they are rebuilding the old municipality building.

im afraid they will ruin baharestan even further if it will be something like this

instead of making it simple and elegant ,they keep adding crap around the buildings

Its great they are rebuilding something lost. It needed those extra subterranean floors added because at only two floors it was out of scale with today's Tehran.
I wonder if they will improve the appearance of the Mukhaberat building by refurbishing the outside. It looks terrible right now. I thought it was the TCI (telecommunications) building btw.

they arent doing anything yet

the subterranean part should be covered or built under the main building, heck, add another story or parking also

theres other methods than this to keep up with tehran today

Riggght, this is what the city center needs, more large scale pedestrianisation projects and historically tinted work.

it doesn't mean because it's nostalgic it's beautiful...
it's not bad but it doesn't fit in Tehran's today, maybe if they would use newer materials to rebuild/renovate it, it could be nice, it would look like a building in Karachi if it was like that today believe me, because this regime doesn't care anyway, also such roads like in the pictures aren't a good idea now, since it's one of Tehran's busiest places in terms of traffic now, they look pedastrian ...

incorrect, toopkhaneh existed during qajar times, then reza shah added the old post building and the municipality (i think municipality might be from qajar) until the 60s i think when mohammad reza shah demolished the post building, which was a very idiotic and disturbing move, until today which even more has been destroyed

After the second world war many streets in European cities were gone completely, but they decided to recreate the ancient buildings, well Tehran doesn't have ancient, but does have Victorian era so they should do it, look think of it this way, if they don't do something like this what else would they do? something with shitty metal panels all over it probably. I am all for this and take down the mokhabarat building whilst they are at it and rebuild the old post building.

i have dreams about that, i really wish they destroy the communications building and rebuild something similar to the post office building, the whole region should have the same thing done with it, when u look at old photos you see the class and culture that tehran had, today , almost none remains, at least architecturally
