Enfidha Becomes First in Africa to Achieve Carbon Accreditation

Enfidha Airport, Tunisia, operated by Turkish operator TAV Airports, has become the first in Africa to receive the Airport Carbon Accreditation certificate from trade body ACI Europe.

Built by TAV with a €500 million (US$667.1m) investment and put into operation in December 2009, Enfidha Airport claims it has the most advanced technologies in energy efficiency, waste management and water management.

The Airport Carbon Accreditation programme was launched by ACI Europe in 2009. It assesses and recognises efforts to manage and reduce CO2 emissions and certifies airports at four levels: mapping, reduction, optimisation and neutrality.

In the past year, 75 airports in 22 European countries and ten airports in seven countries in the Asia-Pacific region have gained the certification.
