there will also be a new british pavillion

New British pavilion at the Global Village 2005
Next year in 2005, there will be a 1750m2 British Pavilion thanks to the efforts of a local British entrepreneur, Ms. Dawn Merck.

The new British pavilion will be built for the Global Village 2005

Approval has been granted from all the government departments and the design, (based on Covent Garden, London), is now being produced.

The Global Village is one of the most spectacular events hosted in Dubai each year.
A concept that began in 1996, the Global Village now attracts participation from over 40 countries and is the perfect forum for the countries of the world to showcase their heritage, culture, architecture, arts and crafts, cuisine, merchandise and unique lifestyle.

The success of the Dubai Global Village enterprise, with a staggering 5.2 million visitors over 32 days in 2004 (official government figures) is even more startling when you realise that until now there has been no real British presence.

In 2005, the Global Village moves to a new and larger site, with dedicated access roads, parking & public transport links, along with a host of other improvements. The village will not only span the Dubai Shopping Festival which opens on January 12th 2005, but will remain open until March 31st 2005,thus making it a much more attractive business prospect for all participants involved.

"We already have several prominent British companies and organisations on board, and are looking for additional interested parties to participate in this prestigious British Pavilion. The commercial area in the pavilion will include banking, insurance, education, tourism, health care and property," said Bill Jamieson, Business Development & Marketing Manager at Dawn 2000 Exhibitions.

The market area will comprise stalls exhibiting and selling a wide range of British products & the shopping streets will feature leading British brands, products and FMCG & a separate area for Arts & Craft and Cultural events.

It always been that way, temporary.

Up to 2001 it was near the Creek Park and Wafi. From 2002 it was near the creek at the right side of Garhood bridge.

I remember in 2000 I got my name written on a tiny grain of rice. I think I still have that.

When they announced they were going to move it out to Emirates Road, I heard that they would make Global Village a year-round destination. Maybe they'll close it after DSF to continue with the construction and reopen it permanently later on?

all year round would be ok if they improved the quality
I went this year and I was not impressed
every store had the same crap I did not find it to show case any thing much international. The pavilions were nothing compared to say a world Expo. Prices were to much. Crowd control and better layout was needed.
