Quote:
Developer Kevin Maloney's Property Markets Group has announced Muse, a super skinny condo tower by his favorite architect (designer of PMG's other current projects Echo Aventura, Echo Brickell, and Sage Beach) Carlos Ott. This place, called Muse, is a 47 story, 650 foot tall,, super skinny at only 60 feet wide, twisting tower smooshed in on 100 feet of oceanfront between neighboring condo towers Jade Ocean and Ocean 4. Major Urban Mall Coming To Miami Worldcenter

Quote:
ExMiami announces that the Mall at Miami Worldcenter, which mall operators Taubman Centers and the Forbes Company are building at the upcoming Miami Worldcenter megaproject, will be 750,000 square feet of retail smooched into four blocks (actually three regular blocks and a sliver of a fourth) directly behind the Biscayne Wall , that line of condo towers on Biscayne Boulevard. Downtown Miami will have yet another urban mall to rival that of Brickell CityCentre. Macy's and Bloomingdale's have already signed up to be the mall's anchor tenants.

You can thank the ultraconservative, Disney-controlled Florida State Legislature for this:

Genting Could Ditch Mega Casino Plans for Minor Casino

Quote:
The Miami Herald reports that Malaysian resort conglomerate Genting Group might be willing to scale back plans to build the world's largest casino in Miami on the site of the newspaper's former headquarters if it can at least have a resort with slot machines, and little else. Under the proposal, Genting would form a four-way partnership that would allow it to use a permit owned by Gulfstream Park racetrack to open a casino with 2,000 slot machines and off-track betting, with the proceeds going to thoroughbred purses at Gulfstream's racetrack and to a non-profit for Florida horse breeders, trainers and owners. What would originally have been a large destination casino meant to attract high rollers and big money, would now be a much less bodacious slots hall similar to Genting's outfit at the Aquaduct racetrack in New York.

Apparently, only a tiny portion of revenue would be kept by Genting and Gulfstream for administration.

^ That'd have been a cool project. But Miami currently loses a lot of its ArtDecoesque appeal and historical charme with all these international style, completely exchangeable skyscrapers.

Sorry to say, but you can't really recognize much of Miami anymore. I used to love this city and its Ocean Drive appeal.

Avantura Mixed Use Development proposed

Quote:
Aventura, that Le Corbusian-esque city of condo towers surrounded by leafy highways and malls, is getting a big mixed use project (its first mixed-use project?), according to exMiami. Located on Waterways Boulevard a few blocks north of Aventura Mall, ParkSquare Aventura appears to be on the last undeveloped piece of land in the center of the city. Integra Investments purchased the parcel for $21 million last year and has re-worked a previous design by Arquitectonica which failed to materialize.

The 7.37-acre, four-block complex, hidden from Biscayne Boulevard behind a strip mall, now includes a smorgasbord of uses: nearly 35,000 S.F. of "specialty" retail, 20,000 S.F. of "quality" restaurant, 150,000 S.F. of office space, 230 hotel rooms, 145 residential units, and a 199-bed assisted living facility.

"Chapel" Condos In Flux In West Palm Beach

Revised design leaves just one tower. Will it be 22 stories? Or 26?

Another tower? Why not?

Third, Slightly Taller, Brickell Heights Building Revealed

Quote:
While the renderings don't exactly show a lot (how could they with that bad iPhonography?) there doesn't seem to be a lot to show. It looks just like the other two, but taller at 57 floors/595 feet. The tower will have 515 condo units, giving Brickell Heights a total of 1,215 units in the three towers. Of course, knowing Related, there are probably at least a few surprises, like whatever those two cutouts in the shaft of the building are. Could they be sky lobbies? Maybe they have something to do with the 60 room SLS hotel that Related is apparently wrapping around the building's parking garage, which will not only be the second SLS in Brickell, but the second SLS on the same street. Talk about confusing.

Doral To Become Instant City?

Quote:
Doral has been many things in its short life. First, the Everglades. Then the portmanteau of Doris and Alfred Kaskel's first names, who dredged the swamp to build, in 1962, the Doral Hotel and Country Club, (now Donald Trump's Trump National Doral) a wildly popular wealthy golfer retreat and sibling hotel to the Doral Beach Resort in Miami Beach. A part of unincorporated Dade, population and commercial density surged on all sides of the resort due to its suburban its location west of Miami International Airport, and a direct highway link—the Dolphin Expressway—to Downtown Miami. The area's growth led to the establishment of the City of Doral in 2003, one of Miami-Dade's 34 municipalities, thank-you-very-much.

However, its planning and zoning up until that time were rather, shall we say, haphazard. So Doral developers Codina Partners brought in the godmother of New Urbanism Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk to fix up the mess by creating a master-planned urban core. Now South Florida's godfathers of real estate development are getting to work, aspiring to build a city of office towers, condos, townhouses, McMansions and government buildings, parks, hotels and stores for a population expected to double in 2 short years.

Codina Partners, which already built Doral a classical city hall for $20 million, is planning a bonafide city center with more than 3,000 residential units over eight or nine condo towers, each up to 20 stories high, that, according to renderings, frame a big village green. They're also building a regular High Street, with at least 70 retail stores and restaurants, and more than a million square feet of office space in four glassy towers, one of which, One Park Square, was built in 2010, before the real estate market crashed. From the dome and columns of City Hall, wide pink sidewalks face a park where a massive, $1 million public art sculpture designed by Miami artist Michele Oka Doner has just been installed in the village green.

Among a handful of other ambitious projects near Downtown Doral is Related's CityPlace Doral, "a city within a city," to include hundreds of apartments over a T-shaped block of more than 330,000 square feet of retail.

MLS To Announce David Beckham's Miami Plans In February

Quote:
David Beckham’s plan to bring a Major League Soccer franchise to Miami is looking more and more like a reality. MLS commissioner Don Garber said Thursday that the league expects to make an announcement on the status of Beckham’s expansion plans “in early February.’’

Garber didn’t say the league was ready to award Miami a team just yet, only that there would be an announcement “on what’s going on in Miami.’’ All indications are if Beckham’s group comes up with a viable stadium plan that is acceptable to MLS executives, Miami will get a team.

“I was down there this past weekend, and I’ve been down there a lot, working with potential ownership and trying to finalize a stadium plan.” Garber told media at the MLS SuperDraft in Philadelphia Thursday. ”Right now, we’ve got a lot of work to do, and we’ll announce something in early February.”
