Correct. They hope to start it this year and finish it in 2014. They then want to start the 290 meter main tower, and finish it by 2018. Then they start the final tower, the 750 ft one.

On second thoughts the main tower reminds me a lot of Costanera Center in Santiago - also by Pelli. I wish Pelli spiced up his designs a bit more.... they all tend to look very similar...

I would have to also agree that maybe two towers would have been a better solution, because three on that site is tight. However, as long as they take advantage of such a prominent site, I really have no problem with the designs, I'm just glad that Chicago is building, although more office space seems to be a bit of a waste instead of building multiple mixed-use structures on that site. again this is all imo

Well, the 290m tower and the 750 ft one is mixed use. But a large percentage is office space

This is the first Pelli tower in years that doesn't look exactly like the HK IFC, and Costanera Center.

As Tom in Chicago pointed out over in SPP this proposals mirrors The Landmark and Aida Towers in Abu Dhabi (also designed by Pelli).

Ok a bit late but these are not placeholders they are the real design, it should have been obvious they have Pelli written all over them.

Looks good though .

.

It is actually 950 ft - http://www.globest.com/news/12_361/c...in-321956.html

They were actually discussing this at SSP, and they ended up saying it was 950 ft - http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/l...,7108445.story

Quote:
The developers said they plan to request a zoning change that would allow them to build slightly higher towers, achieving a total square footage for all three buildings of more than 3.7 million square feet. If that change were granted, the towers would be 950, 750 and 525 feet tall, said Hines' zoning laywer, Jack George.

I'd find it very hard to believe that the zoning can't be changed over a mere 25 feet.
