This thing is rocketing up!

Sorry if this was recently asked, but when are the higher ones supposed to start construction? This area of the river is going to look amazing soon

No doubt awaiting leases. Hines started River Point on spec but they are on a completely different level than most developers.

It's disappointing only the residential tower is currently U/C, which looks quite boring. I hope this won't end up like the new WTC complex, with towers on hold. If only a deal could be inked for a headquarters to move from the suburbs...

I know, is the market poor right now or something? Chicago's putting off most of it's cool projects and there aren't even many of those.

Meanwhile...

Mead Johnson moving HQ downtown
Quote:
Baby formula company Mead Johnson Nutrition is moving its headquarters to downtown Chicago from north suburban Glenview.

Mead Johnson will bring 200 workers to River Point, a 52-story office tower under construction in the West Loop, the company and Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced today. Crain's reported earlier today that Mead Johnson planned to move to the tower at 444 W. Lake St. along the Chicago River.

The company will move to about 75,000 square feet at River Point in mid-2017, according to a statement from Houston-based Hines Interests and Montreal-based Ivanhoe Cambridge, which are developing the building along with Chicago investor Larry Levy.

The nearly 1.1 million-square-foot River Point is expected to be completed by late 2016. With the Mead Johnson deal, more than half of the tower's space is leased.

“Locating in the center of a vibrant, world-class city and business hub like Chicago is consistent with our vision to be the world's leading nutrition company for babies and children,” Mead Johnson President and CEO Kasper Jakobsen said in a statement from Emanuel's office. “Our new downtown location will offer us advantages in terms of access to resources, employee and visitor amenities, and our ability to attract and retain the very best talent.”

Previously signed tenants at River Point include law firms McDermott Will & Emery and DLA Piper.

The deal continues a trend of corporations shifting their headquarters downtown from the suburbs, often citing the desire the recruit younger employees who live in the city. Major deals have included Motorola Mobility's move to the Merchandise Mart from Libertyville, in-flight wireless Gogo's deal to relocate to 111 N. Canal St. in the West Loop from Itasca, and Sara Lee spinoff Hillshire Brands moving to 400 S. Jefferson St. in the West Loop.

Mead Johnson's current headquarters are at 2701 Patriot Blvd. in Glenview. That four-story, 130,000-square-foot building is owned by Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Mead Johnson leases more than 67,000 square feet there, according to real estate data provider CoStar Group.

Mead Johnson was spun off from Bristol-Myers Squibb in 2009.

The tenant was represented by New York-based Cushman & Wakefield

I'd love to see Beam Suntory or Kraft move to Wolf Point, but it seems the former is committed to Deerfield, and the latter is wishful thinking. Abbot?

So basically it's not really news.. I mean if there's not much of a chance of either of them moving in.

Chicago development is so stagnant it's got to pick up sometime soon again. Is it really wishful thinking of me to hope they combine the other two towers into one supertall? The site is small after all

I don't know why you are hoping for companies based in Chicago suburbs to move downtown. I prefer to think of the Chicago metropolitan area as a whole, and not make this a city vs suburbs thing. What I'd really like to see is companies move into the Chicago metro area - either city or suburbs - from out of state. Illinois needs help, and a company moving downtown from Deerfield (or Northfield or North Chicago) is only rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

No it's actually as good before the recession,it's more about the developers. There are plenty of rumors flying around of large projects.

Just some basic info this will open in the fall, and expect news on phase 2 in the next few months.
