Kennedys, Hines plot second Wolf Point apartment tower
By Alby Gallun

Quote:
As they start filling up their first high-rise on Wolf Point—a 48-story apartment tower—the Kennedy family and Hines Interests have decided to keep riding the rental wave for building No. 2.

The Kennedys and Hines had envisioned a combination of office and residential space for the second of three planned towers at Wolf Point, the triangular tract they are developing at the confluence of the Chicago River's north and south branches.

But they have decided instead to stick with what's working, drawing up plans for another apartment building on the east end of Wolf Point, Christopher Kennedy, chairman of Joseph P. Kennedy Enterprises, said recently. They aim to break ground on the high-rise by first-quarter 2017, he said.

The decision may seem like a no-brainer amid a golden era for apartment developers, who have been able to fill up new buildings easily and sell them for big gains, even before leasing them up. Residents have already signed leases for about 30 percent of the apartments in the first Wolf Point tower, a 509-unit building called Wolf Point West that opened in January. About 10 percent of the units are occupied.

The second tower will be “significantly larger” than Wolf Point West, Kennedy said, but he did not offer specifics. The zoning agreement that covers Wolf Point allows for a 750-foot tower on the east end of the riverside site, enough for a 60-story apartment building.

Since west is complete can this go to supertall proposals?

I went ahead and started a new thread for Wolf Point South in Proposed Supertalls. The other two towers should remain with this thread.

Step Inside Wolf Point West in This Exclusive Tour

Quote:
The first of the three-tower Wolf Point development has been realized where the north, south and main branches of the Chicago River converge. Built in a joint partnership between Hines and Magellan Development Group, the riverfront project's 46-storey frame and fresh interiors were recently toured by City Ambassador harryc.

Well, not completely. But even if I didn't like Trump I still would like to see the Trump International Tower.

Wolf Point's second tower to rise 66 stories

Quote:
Wolf Point's developers are planning to launch construction of a 66-story apartment tower in early 2017, the second of three planned towers on the riverside site near the Merchandise Mart, in early 2017.

Wolf Point East will be a 750-foot-tall tower with 707 luxury apartments, according to the AFL-CIO Building Investment Trust, an investor in the first two phases of the development. The tower will be 66 stories.

Crain's first reported in April that the tower's developers, a venture led by Hines Interests and Joseph P. Kennedy Enterprises planned to break ground on the second tower in the first quarter of 2017. At the time, specific details of the project were not disclosed

^ this is awesome. Thanks for sharing.

I read on Curbed that the tallest tower here is rumored to be a supertall. Let's all cross our fingers for it.
