Sterling Bay Finishing Half-Built West loop Office Building

Sterling Bay's new project at 1330 West Fulton Market, turning a partially finished building into a nine-story office tower on spec, suggests that level of confidence. In a neighborhood brimming with construction, including the Googleplex and scores of related projects, adding 290,000 square feet of office space and 790 parking spaces without any tenant commitments seems like less of a gamble.

"At a time when demand far exceeds supply, speed to market is a definite advantage for the property," said Sterling Bay's Chloe Reaumond in a statement. "Tenants currently seeking space in the neighborhood are being turned away due to lack of existing product."

The Sun Is Rising Again on Studio Gang's Solstice on the Park

A never built Hyde Park condo project designed by Studio Gang might still see the light of day. Originally designed in 2006, the 26 story Solstice on the Park project was to be located on the northwest corner of East 56th Street and Cornell Avenue, just across the street from Jackson Park and the grounds of the Museum of Science and Industry. The unique design was commissioned by Antheus Capitol, who is also developing the nearby City Hyde Park project, another Studio Gang job that is currently rising on Lake Park Avenue.

The Hyde Park Herald announced this week that the Solstice project is still alive and will include a shift to 250 apartments or a mix of apartments and a new hotel versus the originally planned 145 condos. While Studio Gang remains in charge of the design, it will likely change with the programing switch. Meanwhile, the increase in the dwelling unit count will also require a modification to the underlying zoning.

Construction on Curvy 29 Story West Loop Tower Kicks Off

Gold Coast's Upscale 4 East Elm Condos Are on Their Way

Tower Block Has Its Eyes Set on Broadway and Sheridan

With Foundation Poured, 150 N Riverside is Ready to Rise

18 Story Viceroy Hotel to Open on State Street by 2017

It's official: Viceroy Hotel Group has announced that it plans on opening its first Chicago location in the Gold Coast by 2017. The upscale hotelier currently has locations in New York, Miami, Beverly Hills, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and several other cities throughout North and South America. The Los Angeles based company will be teaming up with Chicago developer Don Wilson's Convexity Properties for the project, which will be located at the site of the old Cedar Hotel at 1118 N. $300M Medical District Gateway Project Greenlighted
