2 questions:

1) Is Chicago in the tail end of another building boom/ Just seems like we've been here before...
2) What's happening with transit expansion (if anything)? the projects on this page alone add up to a few 1000 units, and I know there's more, so how are they going to all get around if the El' doesn't expand?

(PS: like some projects, not others, but definitely glad to see them happening. We're a bit starved for skyscrapers down here in st. Louis)

Chicago is pretty much at the peak of the cycle; the luxury market in most cores in the US is increasingly saturated, but there's still pent-up demand for housing, so groundbreakings will continue throughout the year. Expect it to slow gradually, though.

Regarding transportation expansion, nothing major for the L to my knowledge apart from maintenance. The CTA is planning grade separation of the Red and Brown Line junction, which will help to boost capacity on the busiest segment of the system.

The ultra-luxury billionaire market is slowing, if not already overloaded. The mid-luxury $500,000 to $1 or 2 Million condo market is booming as people are flocking back into the city for the convenience of not having to drive to every single destination.

As far as mass transit, most of the development seems to be infill taking over sites that were long underutilized thanks to 1950's Urban Renewal. It will be mostly maintenance and station upgrades with the occasional infill station until someone seriously proposes a large urban development beyond the ends of the L train lines.

Progress Continues at 8 East Huron

In anticipation of the project’s fall 2017 opening, 8 East Huron (alternatively known as CA State/Huron and 2 East Huron) is entering its final stages of construction in Chicago’s thriving Near North Side neighbourhood.
496-Unit Rental Tower on the Rise in Chicago's South Loop
Quote:
Since construction began last spring, progress at the site of 801 South Financial, a 496-unit rental tower designed by Pappageorge Haymes Partners for Wood Partners, LLC in Chicago's long-overlooked South Loop has been moving along nicely. The soon-to-be 33-storey, 354-foot structure is now roughly halfway to the top. Just a few blocks south of The Loop, the transformation of a former surface lot into a home for approximately 750 new residents will be a welcome boost to the area. South Loop has recently become a hotbed of activity, as new developments continue to rise.

Thanks for these awesome updates,
but if there is anyone on this forum who's from Chicago or is just
overall visiting the area, could we get some pictures of One Bennett Park?

There have been many articles saying how the speed is pretty good and it's
increasing in size is very nice to watch.
But I think we could use some good pictures of that one.

Thanks for all these awesome updates though Geoking, very informative.
