Awesome! There is a similar project in Bratislava (I guess that it is even inspired by Vienna example), however, the realization doesn't seem to happen soon. Could I borrow your pictures for my blog?

What's with all of the rooftop extensions? They ruin the buildings.

The last pics may not provide a good example but those extensions are beneficial to the buildings. The buildings value increases as they are usually refurbished as well.
Some of the extensions are designed with respect to the buildings and do not draw the attention too much.
It surely remains debateable to which degree they generally affect the building's appearances. I am usually a fan, but i sometimes see the concern.

It would look better in my opinion if they had adhered to the proper style of the building. Modern and classical do not mix.

^ I totally agree! Vienna, what's going on? Extend your buildings, it's no friggin problem, but DAMN, stick to the building's designs! Extensions weren't much of a deal during historicist times, it was done all the time - with great care for aesthetics. And thus buildings pretty much always looked better afterwards, not worse.

This is only to be called criminal:

Seriously, WTF?! They're totally ruining Vienna's roofscape and thus the overall cityscape.
It is rapidly falling behind in terms of visual appeal that way.

Oh, btw this is how the Hamerling Hotel looked like historically - it could easily have been restored with all the money that went into its makeover. Wien, go for the Leipzig model of reconstructions please, for your own good!
