The only thing I'm not keen on is the steelwork sticking out of the sides.

Contract award imminent,
Quote:
Contractor McLaren is set to be picked to build former Manchester United star Gary Neville’s new ten-storey hotel next to Old Trafford Stadium.

Building understands the contractor has edged ahead of three other firms bidding for the job, including Bam Construct, Galliford Try and Bowmer & Kirkland.

Galliford Try's got the contract, work to begin imminently. Scheduled to open Spring 2014.

This car park for it was recently approved, land behind the Premier Inn. The rest of the parking being at the Lowry.

I love how Neville says it is not going to be United themed.

Why would anyone think it should?

And the pitch on the roof. Classic. I want to stay.(well I don't really)

Is that a *United Engerland flag*?

Only in render land.

On a serious note. I'm glad Chuckle 1 has stuck 2 fingers up to Glazer Land. Looks good.

Can't wait to cross the border is 2 weeks time.

The car park is bigger than the hotel then. At least in terms of footprint. The hotel site is tiny, it will be interesting to see how they fit the construction traffic in.

I passed here this morning, and they've closed off one lane of the westbound Wharfside Way, from the canal bridge to the junction with Matt Busby Way. It has a red Site Access sign. They were also fencing off the little chord of paving on this corner, that has a couple of traders' pitches marked on it. There's probably space for a portacabin there.

So on the face of it this is now under construction.

Perhaps you should ask yourself why.........

Can't be arsed!

Let the game continue Mr Parks.

On a serious note. I'm still waiting for your 1st meaningful contribution to.... I suppose we'll just have to make do with quips and sound bites as per. They do become boring and tedious in the end. Not Mr Parks jrb? Never!

Funnily enough,I was in the Midland Hotel, just a few weeks ago,and I did hear,at reception, two very smartly dressed men, discussing, this very point, although I didnt quite catch the height.

Wink

Funnily enough I was there, but thats another story.

Even funnier the 1.5 m of feminine fun nicked the old i pad, read this thread, laughed out loud and then proceed to check out prices for the midland and then the Hilton when i have a lads time next month.

So if the Hilton looms across Clayton, i will be expensively booking a room. I actually look forward to that. Room service, a chilled german beer, views of the Pennine and rhe city. Excellant.

Being serious, the Neville Notion is a curious proposal. I can imagine in the past, retired footballers being landlords of pubs next to the ground, but build and then run a hotel. Astonishing.

Frankly it doesnt really concern me too much what goes up next to OT. Though i will be there for the rugby a few times this year, so uwag it does.(What goes on in east Manchester does though as i have sentimental attachements to that district.) but its a good job. Sympathetic to the stadium,
a great addition for the fans and because of the ex player link, has geninue kudos. And if it annoys the Glazers, even better.

As MUFC is so prominent, then i imagine it will be noticed. Then I can see this kind of development becoming mainstream thinking in the commerialisation of sporting concerns.

They're not giving up on the advertising screen thing. Missed this app, submitted following the refusal of the other.

80179/AA/2013

Sign 1, facing Wharfside Way has been reduced in size by around 20% (3.86x7.81m panel), 40% less than what was originally proposed. Sign 2, facing the car park, going back to the same size as the initial plans (3.5x15m).

Both been lowered by about 2m.
