Water Board floats tenders for Krishna phase III project

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) on Saturday issued a notification calling for tenders for executing Krishna drinking water supply project phase III. Earlier, the government accorded permission to take up the project at a cost of Rs 1,670 crore. The water supply project aims to bring 90 million gallons per day (MGD) to Greater Hyderabad.

"Tenders have been invited to construct a clear water treatment plant in Kodandapur, lay a 110km pipeline between Kodandapur and Sahebnagar, construct service reservoirs, pump houses and also lay pipelines between two stretches - Sahebnagar and Prashasannagar (33 km) and Sahebnagar and Alwal (29 km) - to supply water to surrounding municipal circles," a Water Board official said.

The Water Board has already identified land for the proposed drinking water project at existing structures. However, it has to get permission from the roads and buildings (R&B) department for road cutting and laying pipeline on their jurisdiction, the official added.

The tender process would be finalised by the end of October and works might start by December-end. "We hope to complete phase III project by the end of 2013 or January 2014. By the summer of 2014, residents of Greater Hyderabad will get sufficient water supply," the official replied.

Meanwhile, works for the Godavari drinking water supply project (Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Hyderabad Srujala Scheme) are progressing at a brisk pace. "We expect the project to be over by March 2014. Once the two major drinking water projects - Krishna phase-III and Godavari project - are completed, the city's water problem will get solved permanently," the official added.

Water Board union’s stir plan ‘banned’

HYDERABAD: Water Works Employees' Union on Monday served a strike notice on Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) managing director protesting the state government's privatization plans. Acting swiftly, the municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) department banned strikes by Water Board employees for a period of six months.

The union representatives, led by its associate president K Raj Reddy, on Monday met Water Board managing director J Syamala Rao and served the notice stating that they would go on an indefinite strike from November 16.

Earlier, around 300 workers staged a protest in front of the Water Board office in Khairatabad demanding the government to drop its privatization plans. Hours after the union gave the strike notice, the MA&UD department issued a GO (Rt No. 1223 dt 17/09/2012) prohibiting strikes by HMWS&SB employees for six months starting September 28.

Water Board MD inspects reservoir

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) managing director J Syamala Rao along with other officials made a surprise visit to the Banjara Stage-I reservoir, opposite to GVK Mall.
They inspected pump house, tanker filling station on the reservoir’s premises, and checked revenue collection under the sub-division. He also inspected nearby Belapur Basti.
