Photos of the High Street

Post pics of your/your city's high streets!!

From the reputation of Chapel Street to the edginess of Brunswick Street in Melbourne, from the grittiness of King Street to the diversity of Oxford Street in Sydney, from the emergence of James Street in Brisbane to the evolution of Rundle Street in Adelaide, we have a number of high streets that have survived the times and continue to be magnets for fashion, food and nightlife.

Here are some from January of King Street in Newtown. I'll be going there tomorrow so should have a few more snaps to post then

From 2006 Census...

Newtown
Population: 13,775
Area: 1.6 sq km
Density: 8,609 per sq km

Lol, Last time I was in Newtown I ended up with severe food poisoning from eating in one of the local restaurants.

Fitzroy in Melbourne is very similar in look and its former name is coincidentally Newtown as well.

Someone should get photos of Latrobe Terrace in Paddington. James Street may be the new place to shop in Brisbane but I still think Latrobe Terrace is unique among high streets in Australia and is typically 'Brisbane' in style.

Forget the hustle and bustle of it's southern neighbour. It is a no-no, and the locals love it.

I'll post them in batches so you can follow along.
