Gee thanks! I imagined it might exist in other trains since they say the sound is produced by the AC/CD converter. And that music video, only in Japan hehee.

Refurbished line 9 station du jour: Cidade Universitária. As said earlier, this batch of line 9 stations was built in the late 70's/early 80's when this was a much simpler suburban rail line.

In 1999/2000 line 9 gained several new stations in its middle but old stations in the extremity remained "archaic", especially the northern ones (Cidade Universitária, Vila Lobos-Jaguaré, Ceasa and Piheiros). The first three ones have undergone a modernization inclunding full accessibility.

Some pics of stations along the old line 12, where that fancy new red CPTM train 7000 is starting to run.

As you can see many of the original simple railroad stations remain among the refurbished/ new CPTM stations delivered a few years ago. All stations are scheduled to undergo renovations soon.

Pics of the unique Sumaré Station (line 2) from 1988, strangely built below a viaduct but above an avenue, so that its middle is elevated, but its sides and accesses are underground.

A bit of history: one of the original plans for the São Paulo metro when the first serious studies were conducted around 1964

That was supposed to have been built before the year 2000, but still today some of those lines remain plans, mostly due to the severe crisis which hit Brazil in the 80's and 90's. The only thing that was over-achieved was the CPTM system having been improved to "metro" standards in many lines.

Today's network:

However if everything goes according to plan we will end this decade with much more than that plan:

2017 Plans:

Here is a couple other, better pics of the original plans from the 1960's

This one contained only the immediate lines to be implemented by 1990....

Another oft-neglected Sao Paulo metro station: Jurubatuba, line 9. Built in the distant past, it was pretty ugly until a renovation around 2003.

(obs: pics a little old, this line is no longer blue, it's emerald green now)

And Engenheiro Cardoso station, line 8, a station so obscure I wouldn't normally remember its name or location in the system.

Lapa station, line 8 (there is another station called Lapa not far, on line 7, not connected to this one). Not exactly a beautiful station but a very traditional, important one in the West Side Italian neighborhood of Lapa.

Location in the system:

BONUS: adjacent Domingo de Moraes Station, next on line 8 due West from Lapa (by Tchello)

Cute little Várzea Paulista station on line 7, a leftover from late victorian railroad architecture.

Largo Treze station (2002), line 5, a one-of-a-kind station for being the only underground station on line 5.
