This is probably the first monorail in the world that has a designated bicycle location on it!! Thanks for the pictures, Sergio!

Those emergency walkways seem quite rickety to me. The platforms don't seem to mach up very well. Hopefully they will never be used for an emergency!

I've been looking through my pictures of the Sao Paulo Monorail Line 15 and was curious about some beams that are shaped differently than most other arched beams. These different beams are found in and around stations and next to switch platforms. Can anyone tell me why these beams are all 'half-arched' and why only one beam is different while the other beam is normal?

ps, I recently switched to a mac and I don't know how to post pictures from my Flickr account here. I used to copy the image location to use for here, but I can't seem to do that on the mac. Can someone tell me how? Thanks,

Luke

Line 5 - Sao Paulo state government made the first train trip to Adolfo Pinheiro station, which he says will be officially inaugurated January 25, 2014, forty days from now.

O consórcio Move São Paulo, formado pelas empresas Odebrecht, Queiroz Galvão, UTC e pelo Fundo Eco Reality, venceu a licitação no mês passado.

These beams are different because they will be used to pass cabling and equipment and thus have hollow parts inside, or so they say in the Brazilian forum.

I know this is a broad question but what is the completion date for the current projects for the new lines and expansions in Line 4, 5, 6, 13, 15 and 17. I get the impression apart from Line 6, Sao Paulo's metro system will look considerably different by 2015/2016 where we'll have a lot of inaugurations.

The first page of the BRAZIL URBAN TRANSPORT COMPILATION contains a summary and status update of all urban transport projects in Brazil, incluiding Sao Paulo.

But I am glad to summarize it here:

Line 4, Phase II - five new stations - 3 for 2014 (Oscar Freire, Fradique Coutinho by July/September, then Higienópolis-Mackenzie for December), Sao Paulo-Morumbi for 2015 and Vila Sônia for 2015/2016

Line 5 - 11 stations u/c - Adolfo Pinheiro for next month (Jan/2014), the next three (Alto da Boa Vista, Borba Gato, Brooklin) may possibly be antedated for 2015, but in any case all remaining 10 stations will probably open before October 2016.

Line 13 (CPTM) - operational by mid 2015

Line 15 - first section (Vila Prudente-Oratório) for April 2014, then new stations will gradually open until 2016/2017. Sao Mateus will likely be operational by 2015.

Line 17 - the section u/c right now includes 8 stations and will be operational by 2015.

So we have some 55km of new rail under construction, which will make the CMSP Company have 130km of rail, not counting CPTM Line 13. Around 47 new stations

PLUS:

Line 6 - 15 stations contracts are signed and expropriations to start early next year. Construction probably by late 2014, and first section from Brasilandia to Água Branca may be operational by 2018, whole line to Sao Joaquim by 2020.

Line 2 Eastern Expansion - 15 stations - from Vila Prudente to Dutra, the first four stations may start construction in 2014 (Vila Alpina, Água Rasa, Anália Franco and Vila Formosa)

Line 18 Monorail - to start construction next year, operational by 2016/2017

With Line 6 and 18, next year (2014) we will have a grand total of about 75-80 new stations under construction in the city (not counting Line 13 and a few other CPTM lines that are gaining new stations)

Then, by 2020, CMSP(Metro) will have 160km of length, plus 285km of CPTM = 445km of heavy rail mass transit in the city
