**OVERVIEW OF PROJECTS UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN SAO PAULO AS OF JULY 2014**

Line 4 - 5 stations (underground)
Line 5 - 10 stations (underground)
Line 6 - 15 stations (underground)
Line 13 - 3 stations (elevated/ at grade)
Line 15 - 18 stations (elevated monorail)
Line 17 - 8 stations (elevated monorail)

That makes it 59 stations under construction

To be awarded within months:

Line 2 - 13 new stations (underground)
Line 17 - 10 additional stations (elevated monorail)
Line 18 - 15 stations (elevated monorail)

So it's an additional 38 other stations "in othe oven", with tenders to be awarded still this year.

A grand total of 97 stations to be built until 2020 or a little later (this does not include a few random CPTM suburban stations that will be renewed or created)

How is the Line 18 Monorail gonna have five-car trainsets when the Lines 15 and 17 (also Monorail) will have seven-car trainsets? Is it because the area that will be served by Line 18 has a lower density?

And about the west side, I read news in 2012 that they have started basic project of Aurelia and Cerro Corá stations? The last one would cross with line 20 (Pink) from Lapa to Santo Amaro.

By the way, is there more news about line 20?

The western expansion to Cerro Corá is still just a promise and has no date to start. I would bet it would only be built after 2020.

Boa tarde/noite.

I have a question.

Reading the thread from the beginning (currently I´m on page 50, I haven´t read between pages 50 and 150 yet, so I´m sorry if I´ve missed anything), on some early page I read that República station and... can´t remember which other one, had some platforms for line 4 that were finally not used.

Could they be used for another new line to be built in the future?

Obrigado.

Line 9 under constuction too, more 2 stations (Mendes and Varginha stations).

Line 2 - Line 2 Eastern Expansion Pack (13 stations, underground) - Tender published and receives proposals from 3 consortiums. The Eastern Expansion pack will make Line 2 the longest and busiest line in the whole Sao Paulo Heavy Rail system when complete, circa 2021, going from 670,000 pax/day today to a whopping 1,5 million/day, along 27 stations. A total of 35 new 6-car trainsets will be added to the line. The global cost of the expansion is around US$5 billion. Construction may start by early 2015.

Republica station was built in 1982 already with additional platforms for future line 4. These platforms have been in use since 2011, when Line 4 reached Republica. They remained unused from 1982 to 2011. The original layout of the Line platforms, however, was drastically changed, because the construction method changed. Originally they planned to use two small tunneling machines to dig one tunnel each, eventually they ended up using a single wider tunneling machine to dig one tunnel for two tracks. Then they had to tear down the original central platform at Republica to allow for the driling machine to pass by.

Now, like every Line 4 station, Republica has only side platforms.

I don't know, I am indeed a bit concerned that the choice of 5-car trainsets instead of 7 may lead to overcrowded trains, or an underperforming line. It will all depend on the promise of very low headways (2 minutes).
