Metro line 2-Green extension towards the northeast.

Line 2 - extension from Vila Prudente to Dutra

It will be an extra 14.5 kilometres and 13 new stations, serving 1.5 million passengers/day [].

The Companhia do Metrô signed, on 25 September, the contracts for the extension of line 2-Green between Vila Prudente and Dutra. The cost of all of them, including the making of the projects and the civil works, is of R$ 6.7 billion.

The extension of Line 2-Green, on the stretch Vila Prudente-Dutra, will be 14.5 km long and it will include 13 stations (Orfanato, Água Rasa, Anália Franco, Vila Formosa, Guilherme Giorgi, Nova Manchester, Aricanduva, Penha, Penha de França, Tiquatira, Paulo Freire, Ponte Grande, and Dutra).

The service will be operated by a fleet of 35 trains, a depot, four intermodal interchange stations, two bus stops, and five yards for reversing trains along the line.

In 30 days, the Metrô will issue the first Order of Service so as the project will start being developed, thus starting the moves to extend line 2-Green to Guarulhos. It is expected that civil works would start by the first half of 2015.
The project has been divided in eight sectors that will see the works develop simultaneously.

The extension of line 2-Green will integrate the town of Guarulhos into the Sâo Paulo commuter rail/metro network, dramatically cutting travel times between Vila Madalena and Guarulhos from the current 145 minutes [2h25min!! blimey... ] to just around 47 minutes.

This extension will also allow a better distribution of public transport by bus.
It will also increase the possibility of connections: with line 3-Red at Penha station and with line 12-Sapphire at the future Tiquatira station.

The functional and basic projects, defining the route, location of the new stations, and constructive method, have been finished.

The construction of the line 2 extension will feature the use of two tunnel boring machines (TBMs), and manual excavation through the NATM method (New Austrian Tunnelling Method). The TBMs, as they bore the tunnel, they install the pieces of concrete, leaving the tunnels totally ready for the laying of the tracks, electrification, signalling and telecommunications.

According to trolleymotion, Sao Paulo is retrofitting 100 three-axle trolleys with left hand loading doors to enable these trolleys run in BRT lanes with center bay platform.

http://www.trolleymotion.eu/www/inde...&L=3&n_ID=2074

Does anyone know the per bus cost of such modification?

I don't, but the pic in the link is pretty cool. It shows the trolleybus near an Expresso Tiradentes BRT station (probably central station)

Hello!
I'm new in this thread and I would like to know how transports in a big city like São Paulo are. I'm seeing that the underground system is expanding and also the BRT routes. Some questions:
-how long will be the BRT lines?
-in a city with more than 20.000.000 of citizens what are the forecasts of passengers/day? How will be guaranteed the shift of many people with bus (that of course haven't got a capacity like a train)? With high frequency?

I believe other forumers could provide a better answer. If you read Portuguese, go to Brazilian forum. It's extremely comprehensive. Subway + train in SP: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3482; Buses in SP: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1532797

Said that, I can provide you some figures: Subway + Trains carry together 7.5 million passengers a day. Bus system, if I'm not mistaken, another 3.5 million. Buses in São Paulo, unlikely in other megacities around the world, are used for long distance commute as well, supporting subway/train operations.

We should keep in mind, São Paulo, also unlike other major cities, counts heavily on cars for transportation. There are already 450 cars per 1,000 inhabitants in the metro area.

Thank you very much!

I'm seeing that there are a lot of underground lines under construction, when the system will be completed? How long will be it?

General - Lines 6 and 18 billions in funding

A Linha 17-Ouro (Jabaquara-São Paulo Morumbi) abocanhará R$ 582 milhões. A Linha 4-Amarela (Luz-Butantã) conquistará R$ 280 milhões.

CPTM
