Line 5-Lilac (to which most passengers will get to from line 17-Gold, by changing at Campo Belo) will be just as overcrowded, if not more.

Btw, the prospect of adding luggage and/or bags, and then having to change at, say, Brás, Sé, Paulista/Consolaçâo, República, or Santa Cruz is quite terrifying.

Off-peak it's alright, but during peaks, oh dear...

Nowadays when people disembark from 257 bus line and change to line 3 in Tatuapé is not a good impression already.

METRO | Line 4-Yellow (new Higienópolis-Mackenzie station).

Rumour...

Looks like Higienópolis-Mackenzie station could finally be inaugurated and opened somewhere between Christmas and New Year.

This station is located between Paulista/Consolaçâo and República stations, and for some time it should relieve these two very overcrowded stations a little bit...

For some time only, because in some years, this station will become very overcrowded too, as it will be a future interchange with metro line 6-Orange.

Besides, the station will generate a lot of passengers since day one, as it is next to a university.

ATTENTION: This dates I've given are still just a rumour, not officially confirmed news AT ALL. However... even if it's just a rumour, evidences make it likely.

About time! Morumbi station was the most delayed part of line 17-Gold (and of all the metro works excepting line 6-Orange).

Yeah. And is essential not only for the line's funccionality but also for her usability, connecting the airport to the rest of system

METRO | Line 4-Yellow (new Higienópolis-Mackenzie station) and line 5-Lilac (extension from Brooklin to Eucaliptos).

Well... not only. Morumbi station will connect line 17 to CPTM line 9-Emerald, which is of course important.
However, the main interchange station on line 17 will be Campo Belo (for metro line 5-Lilac).

On the other hand...

===============================================

News!

Higienópolis-Mackenzie station, on metro line 4-Yellow, delayed ONCE MORE.

Btw this station has already a nickname: "the robot", because of the shape of its very ugly technical building, which looks like a cartoon robot.

Now authorities hint at January 18, 2018.

Unofficially, somewhere between today and New Year's Eve was expected as the definitive opening date.
However, the pics below clearly show that there's still a few more days left to open.
Its opening had been officially announced for "December 2017". But... no.

Here are some very recent images of Higienópolis-Mackenzie station.

Same goes for Eucaliptos station on metro line 5-Lilac, which was promised for January 2018.
However, it's still a bit more delayed than it should for such an early opening.

Here is an image of the works at Eucaliptos station, taken on December 24.
You can tell the "snail" station entrance at the bottom right of the pic. Nice sky btw (and even better skyline ).

MONORAIL | New line 17-Gold (Morumbi-Congonhas/Jardim Aeroporto, under construction)

Água Espraiada depot

A timelapse from 2013 and 2014, showing the start of the works for the Água Espraiada depot of line 17-Gold.

Now the works are far more advanced (see pics above in this page, post #4026), but they're still way too delayed anyway.

God knows how difficult and unpleasant these works are.

The water there (an anti-flood reservoir for the Jabaquara creek) is as good as a sewer.
And the depot is being built right on top of it.

I feel sorry for the workers, who not only have they had to show quite a bit of patience with the periodical flooding, but they also have to put up with the stench, not to talk about possible dengue or other mosquito-transmitted diseases.

These must be about the most frustrating works in all of the Sâo Paulo metro and rail network. Just watch and understand.

METRO & CPTM | Statistics November 2017 (Lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 15) and December 2017 (lines 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12)

Average passengers per day and station

The average for lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 15 (metro) is calculated per day of November 2017, but not counting weekends or bank holidays, and rounded up.
Passengers counted are those entering from the street or changing from another metro line or commuter rail (CPTM) line.

Average for lines 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 (commuter rail -CPTM-) is calculated per day of December 2017 (all days counted).

Sadly, no data available for metro line 4 (operated through a PPP).

Stations in bold have a transfer to at least another metro or CPTM line.

Stations Santa Rita (L8), and Amador Bueno (L8) do not appear as their access is free of charge.

METRO | Line 4-Yellow (new Higienópolis-Mackenzie station).

Images taken on December 28, 2017.

You can see how they were installing the signs at the entrance.

Fewer and fewer things left for this new station to open.

Here there's still a lot more work to be done before being able to open.

METRO | Line 4-Yellow (new Higienópolis-Mackenzie station) and line 5-Lilac (extension from Brooklin to Eucaliptos).

Rumour...

According to this post from a usually well-informed source on the Brazilian forum, the new Higienópolis-Mackenzie station on metro line 4-Yellow could maybe open on Saturday 20 January. NOT OFFICIAL date though (or not yet, more as we know it).
The station is very nearly finished, they're already cleaning the inside. It really is a matter of days this time.

As for Eucaliptos station on metro line 5-Lilac, and according to the same post I linked above, they're running like hell to have it opened this January too, but they might not be able to make it anyway, in which case it would open in February. Besides, to open Eucaliptos station in a non-disruptive operation, it should open already with all the tests finished, and in full commercial operation, due to the track scheme of this line, which will only allow to turn trains around at the still-unfinished Moema station. Besides, to reach Eucaliptos station from the current Brooklin terminus, trains should pass the unfinished Campo Belo station (which, if lucky, might open by the end of 2018), without calling there.
Moreover, February should also see the opening of three more stations on line 5-Lilac (Moema, AACD-Servidor, and Hospital Sâo Paulo), so it's not unlikely that these three plus Eucaliptos finally open together in one go.
However, this does not seem to be the schedule concocted by the politicians, whose mouths seem very focussed on opening Eucaliptos this January...

METRO & CPTM | Statistics December 2017 (Lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 15) and January 2018 (lines 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12)

Average passengers per day and station

The average for lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 15 (metro) is calculated per day of December 2017, but not counting weekends or bank holidays, and rounded up.
Passengers counted are those entering from the street or changing from another metro line or commuter rail (CPTM) line.

Average for lines 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 (commuter rail -CPTM-) is calculated per day of December 2017 (all days counted), albeit issued as "January 2018".

Sadly, no data available for metro line 4 (operated through a PPP).

Stations in bold have a transfer to at least another metro or CPTM line.

Stations Santa Rita (L8), and Amador Bueno (L8) do not appear as their access is free of charge.

CPTM | Line 7-Ruby

Video filmed in November 1, 2017, near Pirituba station.

You can see the transition between old and new rolling stock.

The older class 1100 (being withdrawn bit by bit), the not-so-old class 1700, the newer class 7000, and the new class 8500 and 9500 (entering service bit by bit).

As of now, the new trains (class 7000, 8500, 9500) are already the majority of trains.
Passengers are feeling a big improvement, as line 7 was the one with the oldest rolling stock, something which caused quite a bit of trouble.
