I'll have to check

Meanwhile a new pic of platform extension works in line 9 (here Santo Amaro Station) to make the line capable of operating with 8-car trains as opposed to the current 6 car maximum:

No the 5000s are Cobrasma-Francorails from the late 70s and are still operational only in line 8, where they are used in 12-car configuration (the longest in the system).

Yes, most of them operate without any renovation, that is, remain essentially the same since 1979. But some EMUs received a little modernization, but were very few (just 12 EMUs, the operational fleet have 72 EMUs and the entire fleet, including disabled EMUs, have 96 EMUs). The 5000 Series operate on Line 8 with in 12-car configuration (4 EMUs coupled), as mopc said.

The current platform length in Line 9 stations was originally designed for 8-car 3000 series trains (2 4-car EMUs coupled), with 160 meters. But new trains are longer (between 166 and 168 meters), so they don't fit current Line 9 platforms. So the current platforms allow 8-car trains too, but only the 3000 series. The 2100 series have much longer cars, so an 2100 series with 6 cars have almost the same length (about 158 meters) than an 3000 series with 8 cars (160 meters).

Já estive em várias cidades da Europa e pude observar diversos metrôs, o de São Paulo é um dos melhores do mudo. Eficiente, limpo e organizado.

Some line 1 pics by Tiago Costa. Parts shown were built as Cut-And-Cover in the early 70's.
