WOW!
SP is the last big city in the world constructing a metro system and you are already presuming about it!

That's really a record!

São Paulo is not the last big city in the world construcing a metro system and you are already presuming about his opinion.

That's really interesting to extract facts about something that was not said.

It´s been in construction since the 70´s. It´s considered one of the safest, reliable and cleanest subway systems in the world. And one of more crowded though, but it´s another story.

First pillars of Sao Paulo's Monorail begin to appear. If they carry out half the plans, this will be the largest monorail system in the world.

What are the reasons for constructing monorail instead of a conventional metro?
I always wanted to know that but couldn't find the reason, specially for Indian cases where big cities plan they're urban transport with monorails.

It's interesting.

Do you have a map of the future's mono network?

i think the main reason is $$ and also that monorail is a lot faster to implement... correct me if im wrong though...

It's basically cost and speed of implementation, as the forumer above said. Plus the areas contemplated are low density, so a monorail would not be disruptive.

Ill look for a map.

Here is a map showing the three monorail lines planned:

None of the three lines cross each other, one is in the north, the other is in the east and the last one in the south, they are represented as lines with a white line inside.

Click here for a full view of the map above.

News on the construction of the South Side Monorail (line 17) (the line show above under construction is line 2, another monorail line, in the East Side). They say it will be operational by 2013, with a daily ridership of 230,000 passengers.
