Green arch structures on elevated tracks

For those interested, those green arches you can see in the above post by mpoc are supports for noise-barriers.

A new, recently passed law in Sao Paulo requires that any new elevated transportation infrastructure (track-based or road-based, aka, bridges, elevated expressways and elevated railways/metro/tramways) must not have an increased noise level than the structure that was previously there or a certain dB level (67 if I'm not wrong), whichever is greater.

So new elevated subway lines must bear these new barriers.

Then I have more for you

Old livery

They are called the 2100 Series and were imported used around 1999 from Spain, where they were used as medium-distance passenger trains. They were manufactured by CAF. They were imported used because in the late 90's the government was deperate to modernize rolling stock but did not have much cash, so they accepted them as a donation, provided maintenance would be supplied by CAF.

Still looks in great shape. They are used by the Sao Paulo Metro right? For all lines or just for few particular lines?

I love it because it has that very distinct look. Now a days most subway cars look very similar to one another. Probably because of its roles, so the design had to serve its roles at maximum efficiency.

They are used by CPTM, which operates a metro-like train service using normal railroads that cross the city. Nowadays they are only used for line 10, but until a few years ago many were found in line 9.

The reason for their distinctive looks (e.g. having only two, very wide doors per car) is, as I said, because they were built to serve as long-medium distance trains, not metro trains.

Construction of the East Side monorail continues as pillars go up, east of Vila Prudente line 2 station. Official deadline for opening is around 2012.
