They are in better shape than the former CBTU fleet, of course. But they're still breaking a lot.

CPTM is the fusion of two different systems, the metropolitan lines from FEPASA (former Estrada de Ferro Sorocabana) and the suburban rails from CBTU (which was the fusion of Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil and the English company São Paulo Railway).

Have a look:

Estrada de Ferro Sorocabana:

1- Linha tronco (Mainline), now Line 8:

2- Ramal de Jurubatuba (Jurubatuba Branch), now Line 9:

Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil:

1- Linha Tronco (Mainline), now Line 11:

2- Variante de Poá (Variant of Poá), now Line 12:

São Paulo Railway:

Linha Tronco, now Lines 7 and 10:

The CPTM network:

The entire system:

Actually I should have made my message more clear by inquiring about the safety of a tourist railfan riding CPTM with a camera. I travel often to Sao Paulo, but have not had a chance to ride the CPTM trains. As you suggested I will avoid lines 7 and 12, but I definitely would like to ride on a train consisting of COBRASMA-Serie 5000 cars. They are quite beautiful

I can get around quite well as I speak a bit of Portugues; Falo MAIS O MENOS, em realidade, MENOS QUE MAIS

Muito obrigado.
You don't need to avoid any line, because they aren't that terrible. If you want, you can make a tour with local railfans, like me or Eduardo. This certainly will improve your ride experience, once we have some information about trains and stations, and you will get some details that will be missed if you make a ride alone.

How are they? Pretty good right? I am a huge advocate of countries buying Korean manufactured vehicles.

I never heard of any problems of them... Of course, Line 4 has some trouble with the CBTC system (which new) and energy supply (some quick blackouts happened). Because of that, Line 4 is still operating from monday to friday, only between 9h and 15h (3pm).

And they said that they would open more stations by November (line 4)... hunf, I knew it was just a lie due to the elections ...

I hope they open the Butantã/Pinheiros/Republica stations soon, and open the entire system the whole day. That would really help me out.

Also, did you guys heard about the issues on line 5? Seems like its going to take even longer to build it.

Thank you very much for the offer, you are absolutely correct. It is always better to railfan with a colega who knows the system. Will certainly get in touch with you when I am sure of my travel dates to Sao Paulo.

Muito obrigado por sua gentileza
