Yes, and they were built around the same time. It appears they were based on similar concepts in terms of design, including station design (BART has station totems as well, for instance).

The train itself is based on a Budd Company design also used in the Miami and Baltimore metros, only the frontal mask is similar to BART trains

In the late 90s the masks were painted blue, replacing the original grey

See how similar it is to the Miami metro trains:

However, these Budd Mafersa trains only serve line 1 and their mask is being replaced in the current modernization plan (which will install AC as well)

Here is the new frontal mask:

Does anyone know about Sao Paulo stations being renamed?

There is a short bit here about this, but no mention of any specific stations and why they were renamed:

the link is not working. What was that about, the ridiculous addition of soccer team "prefixes" to some station names, like Tietê being renamed "Portuguesa Tietê", or Barra Funda becoming "Palmeiras-Barra Funda", Imigrantes to "Santos-Imigrantes" etc?

The "new" Pinheiros station of line 9, replacing the current one built circa 1980, will only open in June. Pics:

Yes, and "finally" hardly even begins to describe the timing...

Access to new República station (line 4) from old one (line 3).

During the opening ceremony of Pinheiros station, the Governor said República and Luz will open by October this year (they were saying December, so this sounded like 'good news')

2014 probably, since the private operator of line 4 is required by contract to open these phase 2 stations only 4 years after phase I is operational, that was 2010, and the five phase 2 stations will require not only station equipment but additional rolling stock (15 new trains in addition to today's 14). Some people say a few phase 2 stations might open by 2013 but I wouldn't put my money on it given the line's unfortunate history of delays upon delays.

Technical visit during rail replacement in line 1, by Tiago Costa

Paraíso station

Abandoned "Moema line" that was supposed to branch off line 1 at Paraíso towards the southwest, but was never completed after the initial section built in the early 70's along with line 1. Today used to park maintenance vehicles and equipment.

More Pinheiros station pics

by Garciaex

by Tchelllo

Escalators galore The station is 35 meters deep, since the line has to cross the wide and deep Pinheiros river just across the freeway from the station.

Bonus: connection between line 4 Paulista station to line 2 Consolação station

There's a small mistake, Fradique Coutinho station appears as opened, but it hasn't been built yet.

Half-mistake. The station dot appears blank but should have a cross, but the station name is followed by an asterisk indicating underconstruction hehe
