Late 70's map by Sao Paulo state railways (Fepasa) showing original plans for its suburban rail network, which now are lines 8 and 9:

Most of those stations on the red line (line 8) were built, but the grey line (line 9) was left with only a few stations when the plan was implemented between 1978 and 1982. After Pinheiros, only Largo Treze (now renamed Santo Amaro) and Jurubatuba existed, plus three precarious stops in the operational extension after Jurubatuba. The connection to Luz was never established either.

A scanned 1991 article from Carga e Transporte magazine about the future creation of CPTM (absorbing suburban rail from Fepasa and CBTU) as well as a "Campo Limpo branch" which today is line 5 (predicted in the article to be operational by 1994, actual opening date was 2002). And its future extension to the center is shown linking it to Ana Rosa (lines 2 and 1) station, whereas current plans take it to Santa Cruz (line 1) and then Chácara Klabin (line 2).





This last page shows what the system was like in the early 90's: overcrowded trains running with passengers hanging out broken doors. This was indeed abolished by the late 90's as the article hoped.
