Any plans to reconstruct the timber framed house next to the bridge seen in the picture above? It would really complement the bridge nicely.

this photograph is sadly impressive...

Many of the cities in the area are "missing" buildings - but here, we can see the entire waterfront is just gone...

Elbląg in the 1970s

From the left: St.Mary's Church reconstructed in the 1960s, Marketplace tower renovated shortly after WW2, St.Nicholas Cathedral reconstructed between 1945 and 1965

Houses built between 1969 and 1975 (also, we can see Church of the Holy Spirit reconstructed in the 1970s)

Are there any plans to reconstruct the 16th-17th century facade (destroyed in 1809) of Elbląg Gymnasium?

Do you have information about the handling of these basements and maybe still existing old vaults? Are they included in the new buildings or are they going to be demolished after there examination?
I think if you have the ambition to reconstruct sth. you should use as much as possible of the original parts. Unfortunately this happens not very often due the costs and the Use plan of the new building. In Dresden sometimes the vaults were mostly involved and in the next quarter they were completely destroyed.
During the constraction of new buldings in the old town the pre-war basements are, sadly, wipe out, as you can see here: (delete the space in htt p)

I'm still curious, how did this style in Elbląg/Elbing evolve?

What was done by the city to convince private investors to build like that? Or is this kind of postmodern gable houses regulated by local construction law, with a design charter?
Other destroyed/barren cities should follow the example of Elbląg, at least when it comes to old-town-like structures and the sense of regional styles.

Simply arch. Szczepan Baum evolved. In 1960s he was modernist:

(Pavillon in Malbork Old Town, source: www.bryla.pl)

In 1980s he switched to post-modernism:

It started in 1970s when everyone was sick and tired of boring late modernism. Actually, the reconstruction started in large scale in 1980s, still under communism.

IIRC it is regulated by the local planning law.
