why isn't anybody talking about the sloped roof - follow the floor lines of the building to the top - its another sloping Manc tower.

I hadn't noticed
But on a closer look, it would seem that it has a slope that covers around 6 or 7 storeys. Well that is something!

Simpson must have a warehouse full of the same cladding in different colours. Bet he can’t wait to get rid of the stuff.

Could be worse. Could be cladding like on that student tower or even worse like one of the travel lodge potato hotels.

I love Mr. Simpson.
Without sounding bitter it is a bit plain but I like plain buildings when the cladding is decent, you cant go wrong really. The cladding looks strong, smooth and finished unlike the 17 NWS. Another 100metre+! you can run but you cant hide NY, London, Tokyo.

Its gonna look massive from Hulme, Moss side, Whalley range etc. May even block the view of the Beetham completely from some streets.

Nice 'Z' shape / overhang.
![]() I like it. The area will look funked up with this, the overhangs on the proposed first street, and beetham. Replace the 'n' in that as you please. Last edited by miffmoff; July 19th, 2012 at 09:45 PM. |

I don't like it. It's boring... but then, I'm comparing it to other skyscrapers around the world in cities where they are the norm. I'm sure the likes of New York has it's own share of big and boring. On a positive note, it will help attract more big buildings to the city I suppose. With a bit of luck, this will end up as a "filler" amongst other 'scrapers rather than a stand out building. At least we're getting something, and it's big. I'm sure every single other city in the UK (apart from London) wishes they were in the same position.

it does have a sloped roof. Personally i think it isn't that bad and at least its better than the derelict building that's currently there, that's for sure.
Oh and it doesn't have that crappy random cladding- always a bonus! |

It's not a sloped roof, it's flat. I asked that question at the public exhibition.

Some people don't like "glass box" architecture. They must think that the lego Arndale Tower and New Wakefield Tower look better than the CIS Tower or Beetham Tower.

I like it but how is it architecture? It's like he said, "alright lads we got all of these glass windows out of the back of a van, let's just build a fucking rectangular skyscraper near where that piece of shit construction site near the Mancunian Way is, gotta shift this before the filth catch on"
But hey, it's tall, the materials will probably be of a good quality and it's in a new development area. At least it isn't multi-coloured. |
