there are many buildings in the 400 meter range going up in NYC.

until there is a taller plateau in NY anything higher than 450 meters would look silly, I think Chicago's skyline can proportionally take it better. Although once all of NY's supertalls are done, I could definitely see potential for a 500 meter tower.

Just curious, what makes you say Chicago's skyline could take it better?

It doesn't matter -- you could build twin towers anywhere (just look at Columbus Circle as an example). What matters is design.

What made the original WTC twin towers so special were their straight lines and cornered tops. The reflection of sunlight made the concrete shimmer in a dazzling array of illumination.

The engineers really knew what they were doing.

I'd like to see twin towers appear anywhere between Midtown and Downtown.
That low-rise gap makes Manhattan appear to have multiple skylines.

That looks stupid. And without Larry, you might as well have a hole in the ground still. He could have enjoyed the rest of his life in retirement but he made the WTC rise back from the ashes and that means he deserves respect, whether you like it or not. You people are so spoiled, goddamit.

What Silverstein rises on ground zero is not anyway more superior, better or breathtaking than this, but listen thats MY OPINION.

I don't know silverstein but yes he deserves probably much respect but he could have done a better job on restore the skyline better.

I personally support this and would have build that if I was silverstein then I would have been called EINSTEIN I belive that

Trump deserves respect for trying to have the Twins rebuilt. Larry cared only about office space, not about one of the most important american symbols. I appreciate that something is being built on that site, I just don't appreciate how inferior in symbolism and height it is

Wasn't it you who said that the new 1wtc is taller than the original north tower? Even so, with an taller antenna? I myself liked Trump's Twin Tower II idea better than what's being built now as well, but I have full respect for Silverstein and his actions.

It is taller, but Trump's Twin Towers 2 were even taller. The old Twins were 417 m and 415 m, 1WTC is 419 m, Trumps Twin Towers 2 were both 450 m

Seriously ? 450M would have been the perfect height...

Yup, Trump and Gardner understood the huge symbolic meaning a height higher than the old Twins would have. Fortunately, 1WTC will be taller as the old Twins too, which in my opinion saves a hell of a lot humiliation, though fun fact (or better sad fact) is that that wasn't the original intent.

Did Trump's Twin tower idea have the thin windows that were unique to Yamasaki's twin towers?

Here is how the windows would have looked like:

I think that's the older design for the facade. Gardner changed it at some point.

Or maybe that was only the tridents at the base. I don't remember.

What I didn't like was the memorial, in that design. That's some scary sh*t.

Nah, I wouldn't think so. They are actually not so good looking somewhere else. The only spot for them to be symbolic and historic was at Ground Zero, imo. Somewhere else and they lose their symbolic value/charm + imposing feel.

But of course they CAN in practice
