Hmmm, a capacity of 17,500 would make it one of the smallest in the NBA, right?

So the Warriors are supposed to pay out hundreds of millions to get out of their lease so they can move into a smaller arena with less transit access and zero parking? Is there an actual plus side here, except for the "prestigious" address?

I haven't kept up with any of the developments on this project.

Would it be possible for this new arena to be built by, say, the year 2016?

They're shooting for 2017.

There's a Muni Metro Station a half a block away, it's 5 blocks from Embarcadero BART Station and 4th & King St Caltrain Station, and 4 blocks from the Transbay Terminal, plus they're building a ferry terminal. I don't remember where I read it, but I remember reading that their value will rise if they move to San Francisco.

BTW, the arena looks amazing!

It's hard to make that location look bad but those renderings did it. The feel is cold, distant, austere. But I imagine someone with some marketing and PR sense will get ahold of them by the time of the next iteration.

I did find Doug Boxer's (son of Barbara and paid "consultant" for the Warriors) defense of moving away from Oakland and the super-loyal fans rather humorous: you see, SF is in the middle of the Bay Area (unlike Oakland) and therefore the 1 Bay Area basketball team should be there.

Of course, the reality is that Oakland is closer to the population center and much closer to the high growth areas in East and South Bay.

This is the farthest thing from cold, distant, austere. The design is open, inviting and stunning! The water entry reminds me a lot of the Oslo Opera House, which is beautiful in person. This is a perfect fit for the piers...now we just have to wait for more detailed renderings of the arena itself...which I'm sure will be amazing as well.

Do you guys think this new arena will get a naming rights deal?

I think Twitter Inc. (based in SF) would be willing to shell out the $$$$.

Location is great; renders are cold. Gray tones; fog; people are tiny compared to the arena and look like zombies. You hit the nail on the head when you compare it to Oslo. Must be a Norwegian thing.

Not criticizing the location, which obviously has potential for great views; just the renders.

Hopefully it will be like Staples Center and be lit up in some color at night. It looks cold as is, but if it was glowing in blue or yellow it would look fantastic right on the water.

Fair enough. I didn't know you were talking about the renders. I think the design is great, but yeah, the renders could make it look more exiting.

That's only out by Ocean Beach. Even Candlestick Park is quite sunny, despite (or perhaps because of) the howling winds.

I'm sorry, but I don't buy any of this. Too many negatives, and repeatedly chanting "But it's San Francisco!" doesn't help. This is just some developer's fantasy.
* A $200 million+ lease buyout to move
* ~3,000 fewer seats
* Mass transit is less convenient
* ZERO parking
This will just alienate the 90% of the Bay Area that does not live in SF. There is no way in Hades that the team's value will increase. Unless you buy into the logic that McCourt's seven years of mismanagement caused the Dodgers to increase in value from $430 million to $2.2 billion.

K, one point you need the stop using is the "less convenient transit access" Considering its ON a trolley line...

"ZERO parking" isn't true either.

San Francisco has to be the biggest city in America without a 15000+ arena. Can anyone verify that or correct me?
