The arc is a quite ancient structure, but somehow this way of combining two of them like this, or making them habitable, has not happened (often?) before. The location is also kind of special.

According to local information the R1 metro should branch towards this building, making it on top of the express line, but I have seen no such branch mentioned in Ditiezu or elsewhere. If there were it would have direct and fast connection to Beijing CBD and Tiananmen square.

While much of Tongzhou New City has zipped along nice, the Old Town is almost finished, the CBD is under construction, even the upcoming new government quarters are showing high activity, the Rainbow Gate has lagged behind.

Recently there have been rumours that the Gate is too expensive to build and maintain, and decidedly lesser designs have been floating around. One, a lesser copy of the Petronas towers, another a group of three skyscrapers.
