Schonbrunn is the most famous for me but my favorite is by far this one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kunsthistorisches_Museum That being said, Vienna is so lucky to have such a wide array of beautiful structures. After Paris, Rome and London (powerful only really), Vienna is definitely the most beautiful and powerful imperial capital in Europe. Probably one of the top 5 most beautiful European cities 1. Paris 2. Rome 3. Florence 4. Vienna 5. Saint Petersburg 6. Prague 7. Amsterdam 8. Venice 9. Munich 10. Madrid

For me it's the Staatsoper and the horse carriages. I'm badly missing it in the polls.

I have to admit I don't know any of these.
Vienna is known in the US for being a beautiful historic city, in the abstract. But I suspect that most of us don't know its buildings. Have learned something from this thread of course. |

I am hardly an outsider but voted anyway. I think its the Stephan's Cathedral. Its one of the most historic structures and has been the heart of the city for many many centuries. It is still at its very heart, just have a look at a map. Furthermore its shape is quite unique with one of the highest church towers, certainly among the true gothic (as opposed to neo-gothic) towers.
I have made the experience that many tourist see the state opera as one of the very top sights to see (of course if possible also from the inside, attending an opera). Many might not have an idea how it looks like though.

That is what I thought. For the majority of people, Vienna is just unknown.

To be honest with you, this von Trapp story is something I only encountered when travelling abroad and US-citizens told me about it. I have never heard it before, nore seen it ever since. Plus I don't know anybody that has seen it (speaking of my friends of course).

Well, I've listened to some Falco songs lately to improve my German skills.
I love his style, it's very unique. Also, there are lots of songs about Vienna which is pretty cool. to Falco and Vienna (which I have to revisit some day)!
